I had a doubt. Are we sure that data essential for the operation of the oscilloscope has been placed on an SD card which is known to stop working in a few years or perhaps months?

Absolutely sure. And I think it's a plus, because replacing a card is extremely easy and cheap.

it would not be economical for the end user who would be forced to take his oscilloscope for assistance... given that no one has the contents of the SD... therefore at the moment it could be an important reason not to buy this model

Many users have made a backup of the contents of their card. And a surprise - you can use the contents of the card from any other DHO800/900 oscilloscope for your DHO800/900 oscilloscope :) The model and serial number can be corrected after that.
So even if the card fails and there is no backup, I think the community will help and someone will provide a saved image of the card.

There's nothing special about any individual SD card. Any SD card will work in any 'scope.

I've run mine on SD cards from three different 'scopes now, including the one originally posted by Dave in the hacking thread (message two or three).

The only thing that makes your 'scope unique is the vendor.bin and Key.dat files in /rigol/data.

Yep.

I've run mine on the file from the second post in the hacking thread.

* Download that file
* Burn it to an SD card
* Boot
* Apply latest firmware
* Copy across your /rigol/data
* reboot
* Run self-cal (ignore the ancient comments about "offsets" - new firmware fixes that)So long as you have the files in /rigol/data then you're good.

Even if you don't have those you could generate a new vendor.bin using the serial number written on the back of the 'scope (vendor.bin is where the serial number shown on the screen comes from).
