Hi,

Can you check:
  • low current measurement function (it boats \$\mu A\$ resolution)
  • Are all channels fully isolated from each other?
  • noise level from fan at max load

Yes I can. Tomorrow if that's ok, as it's pretty late here.

They really went to town with designing the bumpers  :-DD

Any plan to do a proper deep dive and teardown? I'm really curious to see if this and the new DP900 series have common ancestry to the DP800 series.

Actually same as old ones.. Rear bumpers are very useful, you can stand PSU vertically and work like that..

Can you check: ?

  • low current measurement function (it boats \$\mu A\$ resolution)
Low current function seems to be working fine. Most of the time i was getting max 3uA off comparing to DMM. Worst on range 0-10uA then it was a bit more off like 5uA.
  • Are all channels fully isolated from each other?
Measuring resistance between negative terminals of both 32V channels i got around 76MOhms.
  • noise level from fan at max load
Didn't try with high load yet, but I assume it will be the same as at the time of power up. For some it might be noisy. For me it sounds similar than my TTI power supplies.

Personally I like that bumpers. Stacks nicely with Hantek.

And Auto MDIX... Well I have bigger worries in my life, but yes, bit not up to date.

Looks very different from their earlier supplies, layout is similar, but component choices have changed a lot.
Huge caps used on the inputs.
Can't see what output capacitance they are using now, very important for a low current supply.

CME is a Chinese micro company, now Hercules Micro never heard of them before. Can't quite make out the part number, but it might be one with FPGA fabric:
http://en.hercules-micro.com/product/index73.html

The front panel seems to be modular/reusable design, along the lines of Keithley DMM's.
The main processor board is Allwinner A40i, quad core 1.2GHz: https://www.allwinnertech.com/index.php?c=product&a=index&id=69

Very interesting, with an A40i, it must be running Linux.

Funny how they jump from supplier to supplier (rockchip for the new DSO etc). I bet software engineering effort is 'free' right? :) having a software platform would help a lot.

But WHY this horrible keypad? Why not the standard 3x3 layout? Am I missing something that is 'normal and common' in EE circles?

Next, we need some firmware dumps so we can hack it!

Seems well built

After using it for a while I can tall you, circular layout is least annoying part of user interface.
The same goes for DG2102 generator.
Hardware wise devices feel ok, but UI... dear lord, I'm trying hard, but it's so non intuitive that just hurts my brain.

There is some firmware available:
https://www.rigol.eu/Public/Uploads/uploadfile/files/20230321/20230321002306_6418886a99c29.zip

Its a rar archive, extract using:

Code: [Select]
unrar x 20230321002306_6418886a99c29.zip

then there's a GEL file, extract using:

Code: [Select]
tar xvf DP900_DP2000_Update.GEL

-rw-r--r-- adil/root  35836928 2023-02-08 13:52 tina-r40-m2ultra.swu
-rw-r--r-- adil/root    105900 2022-04-08 04:44 sousa_fpga.024.bin
-rw-r--r-- adil/root       185 2023-02-08 13:52 image_info.txt
-rw-r--r-- adil/root       108 2023-02-08 13:52 checksum.txt

then there's a cpio archive:

Code: [Select]
cpio -i <tina-r40-m2ultra.swu

-rw-r--r-- 1 henk henk     3656 Apr 12 22:04 sw-description
-rw-r--r-- 1 henk henk      256 Apr 12 22:04 sw-description.sig
-rw-r--r-- 1 henk henk 15728640 Apr 12 22:04 recovery
-rw-r--r-- 1 henk henk  1196032 Apr 12 22:04 uboot
-rw-r--r-- 1 henk henk    32768 Apr 12 22:04 boot0
-rw-r--r-- 1 henk henk  4194304 Apr 12 22:04 kernel
-rw-r--r-- 1 henk henk 14680064 Apr 12 22:04 rootfs

Then there's a squashfs filesystem:

Code: [Select]
file rootfs
rootfs: Squashfs filesystem, little endian, version 4.0, xz compressed, 14674551 bytes, 1446 inodes, blocksize: 262144 bytes, created: Wed Feb  8 12:49:37 2023

So we have a sunix linux system running on your PSU unit together with an FPGA.

That's actually pretty cool.
But i guess it's just to fulfill curiousity, cause, there is not much you can do with it anyway.

Ahhh yes the FPGA part was mostly out of curiosity, don't expect software mods anytime soon.
I think Rigol used to stuff Xilinx in their designs, maybe Rigol has seen the writing on the wall and is moving its supply chain closer to home ;)

But the rest is serious, I am expecting a unit in a couple of days.

I would like to be able to access this bit of kit using SSH as root.
And it might be similar to the MSO5000 hack.

Auto negotiation is supported ...
Code: [Select]
Network Hardware Configuration
Status: CONFIGURED
Password: Specified
Link Speed And Duplex Negotiation: Automatic
Link Speed: 10 Mbps
Duplex:     Full Duplex

however:
Only 10 Mbps supported, indeed, what century is it...

Does anybody know, what it is about that Monitor function? It says the option is not enabled, you should buy it but it doesn't appear as an accessory in the shop.

The same message "Option is not installed, please buy it." on DP932A. It looks like Monitor function is not yet implemented in DP900/DP2000 series. You will not find it described in DP900/DP2000 User Guide (April 2022) either.

On-line monitor and analysis functions option (AFK-DP800) exists for DP800 series.

Strangely enough it's in the code, the corresponding SCPI messages are defined and even it seems to be active. Only the access to the configuration is blocked.
