As others have suggested, reflashing the firmware might be worth a shot. However, if that's not the issue and something messes with the flashing process, it could seriously ruin your day. I've had that happen to a device before and it was basically game over after that.

Have you checked and reseated all the ribbon cables?

I guess we'll be seeing way more equipment getting bitten by NAND flash rot.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Let's hope you've kept up with the updates Dave and have V2.01.01.23R7 installed.

1. Supported system recovery from U-disk.
2. Fixed a bug which may cause the generator report a false over voltage alarm when start-up.

Expect contact from Siglent with the remedy later today.

NAND Flash really needs a socket.  So you can replace the chips every month or so.  I hope my unit does not suffer the same incident.

Dave, late last night this came to me from Siglent:

We have the solution for SD card recovery. We will provide the recovery files then through the SD card to make it back to normal work. We are doing some testing and will provide a complete solution tomorrow.

The micro SD socket could end up being extremely useful. My question is would Siglent make a recovery image for a regular customer or are they only doing it because it is Dave's unit and rather high profile.

Chasing this up with Siglent, they tell me that the recovery file has been sent to Dave some hours ago.
Thanks Siglent as I know you gave this high priority.

Judging by some of the stories of customers of recent oscilloscopes, you may or may not receive proper help when you're a regular customer. The Siglent products aren't looking bad at the moment, but it will largely depend on whether they can work out these support issues whether they'll be taken seriously as an test equipment manufacturer or not. Buying an attractively priced piece of gear doesn't make a lot of sense if it's a lottery whether something is wrong and whether you'll get help. Not to mention people will shy away from buying anything that's been freshly released.

Hello,

I am not a regular Siglent customer, yet Siglent Europe helped me solve my SDS1202X-E compensation problem by sending me the capacitors to correct the compensation problem.
You must contact Siglent directly when there is a problem that the dealer does not want to repair.

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem as Dave with my SDS1202X. Mine was purchased from PASS (Tester.co.uk) in the UK thankfully it was still under warranty the unit was returned to Siglent. I know that Dave comments on the rust problems with Siglent equipment well I can unfortunately add to Siglent's reputation as they provided the worst service I have ever experienced in over 40 years as a professional R&D electronics engineer dealing with numerous equipment manufacturers. After Siglent's failure in repairing the unit with all manner of excuses Pass offered and provided a full refund. Thank you Pass.

Thanks Siglent as I know you gave this high priority.
What happens with calibration data stored in the file system, will that be preserved ?
Will this work if the Flash is totally garbage ?

AFAIK Siglent gave Dave a 'tailored' solution specific to his unit. They most likely studied the boot dump in the video to get the info they needed so to not effect the calibration.
I might be wrong and until Dave reports on the success or not of the solution Siglent gave him.....

Dave said he was going walkabout Aussie style for a lot of January so we'll have to wait for him to report back when he gets to the lab.

This makes me wonder where the calibration data is stored.

I found a file "/usr/bin/siglent/config/cali/calibration", but I'm not sure that these are actually the calibration constants.

When I run the "selfCal" through the front panel, the contents of the file didn't change (which doesn't seem to make sense to me). I don't see any other files with calibration in the name. Perhaps the actual calibration constants are stored in some other EEPROM?
