Rigol DS1052E RAM upgrade
« on: January 27, 2013, 01:14:20 am »
I've been looking around to see if someone has actually done a RAM upgrade for the DS1052E as it seems like a straight forward thing to do. The current ISSI chip IS61LPS25636A (http://www.issi.com/pdf/61vps_lps25636a_51218a.pdf) could easily with some rework be replaced with a double capacity ISSI chip IS61LPS51236A (http://www.issi.com/pdf/61VPS_LPS-51236A_102418A.pdf) but would the software actually be able to use the extra RAM? As for upgrading it to 100MHz, I have actually ordered 3 AD9288BST-100 to replace the 40MSP ones originally in it and doing a software upgrade for it as well.

Any good ideas for the ram upgrade? The ISSI ram chip is only about 18EUR on Mouser (http://dk.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=87061LPS51236A2TQLI) so it would be a rather cheap upgrade if it would result in double capacity for samplings.

Regards,
Jok

There is no model in the DS1xxxE series with twice the memory, so it would be extremely unlikely that the extra memory could be used without major modifications to the firmware/bitstream. It would also require an extra address line that's most likely not wired.
