Rigol ds1054z / dho914
« on: February 18, 2024, 11:01:12 pm »
Hello, my name is Mathis Verschueren and I am planning to buy an oscilloscope for high school and later college, Which scope is the best, the dho914 or the ds1054z. Which one would you choose? Because the form factor and 12 bit and 50mpts are nice things to have. But is the dho914 ready to take measurements And there are not too many bugs, the logic analyzer will not be used for me, the 200 microvolt per division would be very useful for me, but if it has too many bugs I will buy the other one What would you do in my situation?

Hi,

Between the two clearly the DHO.
If you can wait 2 weeks there would be further alternatives avaible.

Definitely not the DS1054Z, it's an antique now.

If you don't want the logic analyzer then you could get a DHO804. They're much cheaper and it's very easy to convert to a DHO924.

(just change one file on the 'scope and that's it, it's a DHO924 but no logic connector on the front)

There's a few bugs but nothing that stops you from working and certainly nothing that would make you buy a DS1054Z instead.

Is the signal generator worth adding or is the signal generator a toy that cannot be used?

That depends on what you need from a signal generator.

Edit: The DHO914S (the cheapest model with SG) nearly 400 Euros more than a DHO804.

You can buy a good signal generator for that much money, you'd need a really good reason to want it built-in...

Since the AWG costs extra, I think you get more from a separate one.
A 2-channel FY6900 doesn't cost more than the extra charge and is superior in every respect afaics.

Just my 2ยข, I have neither the Rigol nor the FY6900.  ;)
