Rigol DS1054Z resets to factory defaults after reboot
« on: June 24, 2018, 03:10:59 pm »
Hi there,

thanks to the information found on the forum, I decided to buy a Rigol DS1054Z as my first oscilloscope. For the first few months, it worked absolutely fine, but since today, I have an annoying problem.

Every time I boot the thing, the settings completely reset. Under Utility --> Power Set, the setting is set to "last", as should be, but it seems having no effect. I also tried setting it to "default" and then back to "last", but it didn't solve the issue.

Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong with the machine?

-Thanks-

Try doing a complete factory reset - hold down the fifth menu button on the left hand side while you power it on.

If that doesn't fix it then it might not be a software problem.  :o

This is a new one on me. The above covers what I would have suggested too.

A couple of questions:

1. When the scope resets itself, does it come up in Chinese? It should come up in Chinese using the Magic Button, but I'm asking about the original symptom on power-on with no buttons pushed.

2. What firmware version are you running? (From the complete System Info screen accessed by the Trigger Menu-Menu-Force-Menu trick)
If you are running an older firmware you might try upgrading to the latest version.

Other than that...    :-//

Thanks for your suggestions!

@Fungus:
Unfortunately, the complete factory reset using the button combination did not work out.

@alsetalokin4017
1. When the scope boots with no buttons pushed, the preselected language is Chinese.

2. The software version is 00.04.04.SP3 (00.04.04.03.02), Board Version is 0.1.4, Boot Version is 0.0.1.4, Firmware Version is 0.2.3.11, CLPD Version is 1.1

Every single time?

In that case you could be looking at the flash memory chip that stores the settings. Maybe a bad solder joint... easy to fix if so.

Or, depending on where you purchased it, it's probably under warranty. Find out how much trouble it is to send it back before doing anything else.

Yes, every single time.

Cool, thanks for locating the issue! You helped me out a lot. Since my device is still under warranty, I will not solder it myself (although I'd like to do it), but rather send it back to the seller.

I'll post again if I get told if it was in fact the flash memory solder joint or anything else.

Cheers!

Yes, every single time.

In that case it's not storing any settings at all. It's definitely not because you configured it wrong.
