Those sharp metal edges that the air has to flow through can make a fair bit of noise too. I have cut them off on computer power supplies for a reasonable improvement. Seeing it is inside the scope case you could do this without it being visible from the outside.

Sorry to revive old topic. As my DS2072A is out of warranty I wanted to try to make it more quiet. First of all, I cut the metal grill obsturcting the fan. There is still the plastic grill to protect it. That reduced the noise bit, but still it was loud. Installed Noctua NF-A6x25 and now it is quiet. However temperature rose from 27.5°C to 31.4°C. Noctua's advertized 0.12A current was not even close to reality. It draw only 0.075A. Original fan was 0.16A and draw 0.166A. Even though the exhaust temperature aint that high, I think I'll put back the original fan as it runs four degrees hotter. Component temperature differences might be even more than that..
Fungus:
Those things are rated to run in 50 degree Celsius ambient temperatures.
I don't think 4 degrees rise will make much difference.
Even if you're not convinced by that I wouldn't give up on making it quiet. Maybe get a different fan.

Bit update. Ordered bunch of fan's, but 60mm size unfortunately only one. Orion OD6025-12HB with following specs: 25CFM / 42m3/h 0.22in H2O / 54.8Pa 30 dbA. So should be 6.5dbA more quiet than the original GLOFN. But it's now 55dbA at around 50 cm in front of the scope. Not really quiet, I'd say it's loud, but darn that thing moves air. Exhaust temperature 30°C.

Do you have an update on this ? I have a 2072 and I'm tired of how loud its fan is.
