Title: Rigol DS2072 Frozen/Hanging
Post by: nfcJunkie on November 27, 2013, 05:02:44 pm
Sooo, that's my first post here, and it's already about something horrifying.   :-\

I have a Rigol DS2072, which I "upgraded" to a  DS2202+56M. I did that soon after I got the scope and have been using it for about two month now.
Last time I used it, I enabled math mode and channel 1, everything was working fine. So far so good.
Now when I switch on the scope, it boots, and I can see that the settings from the last time I used it are still in effect, but the scope is stopped and completely frozen (-> doesn't react on any input).
I have tried flashing the firmware, wich works, but the scope is still frozen, and even the same settings are still displayed. I tried several firmware versions, but the result is always the same.

Is there any way to hard-reset the scope?
I'm not sure if this issue is caused by the 200MHz hack, or by anything I have  done (eg. a bug in the math mode?)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Perhaps try the reset method detailed in the attached .pdf.

Has the heat sink clips fallen off and shorted something?

The method suggested by Tasman worked! I wonder, why this isn't mentioned anywhere in the manual...
Thank you so much!  :)

The heatsinks seem to be fine, as far as I can tell without opening the scope.
I think it was just a software bug triggered by the settings I used...

Does anyone else have problems downloading this file?
Whenever I try to download it the filename is just "download" without any filename extension. So I manually have to rename it to Reset.pdf to be able to open it as a pdf file.

Found it on RigolNA site.  Maybe your problem is not unusual, hence the published fix, but perhaps Rigol don't want to advertise it.

Even my DSOX2002A is not perfect... But this happened only once...

But it did not freeze.

I would like to express my gratitude for this (old) comment. I have a brand new MSO1104Z that froze solid after the first few startups. The procedure works the same for the MSO1104Z, except that it is the 5th button not the 6th. This scope has one grey button less, so it is still the next to last.
