Rigol DS4000 Firmware Update
« on: November 04, 2012, 04:57:21 pm »
I received a firmware update for my DS4024 from Rigol and, following their instructions, attempted to install it.

There was an initial update (I can't remember the title) that was successful, but my scope has been stuck at about 1/4 way through "Updating FPGA Configuration" for nearly 48 hours.  I assume a successful update takes significantly less time.  I connected the scope to a UPS during the update, so there was no power interruption.

I will, of course, be contacting Rigol on Monday, I am just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue and if there is a solution simpler than returning the scope for service.

Thanks,
Chris

Sorry, can't help you with the update - but I wonder whether you'd mind letting us know what the changes are?

I had a demo of a DS4000 series a few weeks ago and found a couple of issues with it. The cursors were a bit erratic and jumpy, and I'm told it's rather picky about the USB memory sticks it uses. Do you know if these have been addressed now?

Was your firmware upgrade successful?
I'm currently running software version  00.00.03.SP1

Yes, in a sense.  Rigol sent me an entirely new scope with the latest firmware.

They reproduced the problem I had on one of their scopes, so it apparently is not that uncommon.

I would suggest you get in touch with Rigol before attempting to do yours. They (specifically Jason Chonko) have been very helpful and replaced my scope with no fuss.

Good to know, Rigol tech support in the USA is responsive.  Putting your flag up will help as different countries get different experiences with tech support and gear availability.

... a long flight  ^-^, but seriously been here forever, originally from the Pacific and still go back and forth.

Off topic, if you mail anything to the FSM, Guam or therabouts, we have ZIP codes, its ~ same logistics and costs for USPS as it would be to anywhere in the mainland; but  don't do this with UPS or Fedex, the same package for $7 US mail is >$100 by Fedex.  Clearly, its a loss leader for the USPS to ship to the 'protectorates.' So gear availability is the same that far away as it would be for most of mainland USA, the only problem is delivery time.

Since my posts have always been relative to the USA, I might as well change the flag for relevance  :-// for those who don't know the link between the USA and FSM.
