I personally think that the Rigol MSO/DS2000A series and the Rigol MSO/DS4000 series look much nicer than the Rigol MSO5000 series.
Why did Rigol change to a cheaper looking design?

Moreover the screen on those older oscilloscopes are Matte instead of Glossy, which is a much better choice!

The Economy version of the Rigol MSO5000 series (MSO5000-E) looks even cheaper!

I don't really have much of a preference. Neither is going to win any awards from me on styling but they all at least resemble serious instruments rather than looking like toys for children. I don't place a lot of emphasis on the appearance when shopping for tools, usability is far more important.

I generally prefer glossy displays over matte although with a scope that may find use on a brightly lit bench I suppose matte could be better.

I challenge you to maintain the previous beautiness while cramming the size of MSO5000 screen in there.

What is the purpose  of your last few topics?  Like the one how new Siglent had thicker buttons on previous models?
I'm not complaining, I'm just confused.
Instruments are not consumer products. Nobody cares about Apple like design on scope. And for better. If Apple designed the scope it would have one button and all channels would be same shade of grey...

Like tv84 says, these new scopes have more functions than ever before. It is actually amazing how well they balance all that complexity.

Probably he's being sponsored to stir up the forum...

I suggest as a next theme:

"Rigol vs Siglent vs GWInstek: which one's has the best grey color in its instruments"

Once we reach an agreement, we add the A-Brands!

Well I like the newer Rigol layout (even if the buttons are somewhat daftly marked  :-DD)

Happily cope with just one vertical knob  :wtf:, no really  :-DD the Lecroy uses just one vertical device happy with that as well, so the Siglent guys are in good company.

As has been mentioned, these are designed for test and measurement use not poncing about down Hollywood boulevard worrying if my handbag dog wifi finder has basic diamond encrusting or the flawless facet variety  :o

Its easy borrow a scope does it fit your needs and quirks or not, if not try another one very simple.

Next it will be, does Tautech's bum look big in a SDS6000 pro suit  |O

Agree with others, I care about capability and usability, a scope is not a dress watch.

The MSO5000 has a matte screen, not a glossy screen like the R&S.

My MSO5000 is halfway between matt and gloss. Looking at a window in the screen reflection - it's diffused like matt, but can clearly see the window like gloss. I think it's good.

But it is cheaper... isn't it?

Apart from having less controls because it is only 2 channels, the only obvious cosmetic difference is the colour of its skin.

Please stop this rubbish!  Stick to technical discussion.

Every scope that has individual controls per channel, in 2 ch version looks weird.
Who cares...
