Rigol PLA2216 gets hot ?
(1/1)
charliex:
just picked up a PLA2216 for my DHO924S and the logic probe side gets pretty hot at the probe side with nothing else connected, anyone else get that?

i pinged support as well but figured i'd try here too. (also only 20 leads
NE666:
I have the same probe but for use in conjunction with my MSO5000.

Yes, it gets warm. Warmer than I'd expected. However, it doesn't appear to cause any issues. I've had mine running for 8 hours at a time some days and it's yet to be a problem. Combined with your experience, I conclude that, for better or worse, that's the way of it.

charliex:
ok thanks for letting me, know it was definitely hotter than i'd expect for such a thing enough for a smell of plastic.. will see what support says too, also asked for my 32 vs 20 probes

charliex:
got a reply from rigol, so seems it's normal.

"The instrument runs hot through the front connections.  You can check the internal temp versus its desired temp within the utility menu under the self-test option.  There is a board test option that will display some of the self-test metrics with desired range and actual values.
I have had a couple customers ask about this and done some temp testing myself.  I reached out to the production team with my data.  They expressed that the values I provided, through hot, were not dangerous to the machine or the user."
