Rigol was working on an MP3 player back in 2001
« on: June 25, 2020, 07:28:16 pm »
Dear EEVBlog members,

I did an interesting discovery today!

Through the Wayback Machine from Archive.org I found out that Rigol was working on an MP3 player back in 2001.

https://web.archive.org/web/20010303225004/http://rigol.com/eng/otherproduct/mp3.htm

In attachment you can find a transcript from the webpage in case it would be removed there.

I wonder if it would be possible to track down the actual hardware.

Maybe we should check with the Rigol management.

Anybody here who has contacts with Rigol at the Executive level? :)

Why? MP3 players are example code on some microcontroller platforms. The devices themselves have been completely superseded by smartphones.

It does not matter at all whether MP3 technology is fairly easy to implement these days!

The whole point is to explore Rigol activities in this field from a historical perspective!

I am a Rigol fan and want to find out more about their activities around MP3 back in the days.
