Title: Rohde & Schwarz RTB2002 / RTB2004 question: importing CVS in pattern generator
Post by: RBBVNL9 on October 28, 2020, 05:14:28 pm
In their RTB2000 data sheet (https://scdn.rohde-schwarz.com/ur/pws/dl_downloads/dl_common_library/dl_brochures_and_datasheets/pdf_1/RTB2000_dat_en_3607-4270-32_v0600.pdf), R&S write that (emphases added):

Quote
Waveform and pattern generator: The integrated R&S RTB-B6 waveform and pattern generator (up to 50 Mbit/s) is useful for educational purposes and for implementing prototype hardware. Apart from the common sine, square/pulse, ramp and noise waveforms, it outputs arbitrary waveforms and 4-bit signal patterns. Waveforms and patterns can be imported as CSV files or copied from oscilloscope waveforms. Before playing signals back, the user can preview them to quickly check signal correctness. Predefined patterns for e.g. I2C, SPI, UART and CAN/LIN can be used.

The R&S RTx-B6 option data sheet (https://scdn.rohde-schwarz.com/ur/pws/dl_downloads/dl_common_library/dl_brochures_and_datasheets/pdf_1/Option_sheet_-_RTx-B6__arbitrary_waveform_and_4_bit_pattern_generator__v1.10.pdf), for the RTB2000, RTM3000 and RTA4000 oscilloscopes, says on its first page (emphases added):

Quote
4 bit pattern generator with predefined patterns: Waveforms and patterns can be imported as CSV files or copied from oscilloscope waveforms. Before playing signals back, the user can preview them to quickly check signal correctness. Predefined patterns for e.g. I2C, SPI, UART and CAN/LIN can be used.

But I cannot find no way to import 4-bit patterns in CSV format into my RTB2004 (firmware 2.300) with option RTB-B6 installed. Cannot find this in the manual either.

Has anyone been able to do so successfully? And willing to share how it is done?

Thanks!

Hello,

it seems that this is an error.
Perhaps they copied "Waveforms and patterns can be imported as CSV files or copied from oscilloscope waveforms" from an other place.

You can ask Rohde&Schwarz

An other error is:
Key specifications R&S®RTB2000    |    R&S®RTM3000 / R&S®RTA4000
Signal forms frequency ranges (arbitrary)max. 10 Msample/s; 32k pointsmax.  |  10 Msample/s; 32k points

Sample rate is 250MS/s and sample memory is only 16kS for the RTB2000
The max frequency for arbitrary is 10 MHz.

Best regards
egonotto

Dear all,

Since the recent 2.300 firmware update repaired the import function for *.SCP import, I thought I could also make a little tool to have user-provided bit patterns translated into that device-specific format.

Attached is an Excel spreadsheet that does this. It's very basic, really, but does what it supposed to do, and makes missing *.CSV import less of an issue.

Hope this little tool can serve others as well!
