Tek AM503A current proble amplifier: Battery?
« on: May 18, 2018, 02:00:44 am »
I recently purchased (has not arrived yet) a Tek AM503A current probe amplifier (supposedly in working order).

I should probably replace the battery assuming the calibration relies on the battery backed RAM, the instruction manual describes physically how to change the battery, however I'm concerned the calibration will be lost of if I don't provide an alternate supply while the battery is out. Does anyone have any insight on this?

There are vague instructions about running diagnostic 97 and 99 that supposedly erase the previous data and then restore it, not sure if this is calibration data or just the last settings when powering down?

Seems pretty clear that the nvram stores front panel settings; and calibration data that is determined after the degauss operation.

I see no risk of removing/replacing the battery and losing data in the nvram. Just follow the the instructions and perform the routine 97 and then routine 99 steps. This will get the nvram back into a functional state.

cheers,
george.
