Siglent SDS 1xx4X-E: How to ...
« on: April 09, 2020, 03:28:24 am »
Being somewhat new here I hope not to violate any etiquette, but the "Siglent SDS1104X-E and SDS1204X-E Mixed Signal Oscilloscopes" thread is way too big. So maybe this can be a more narrow "How to ..." thread?

My question: I took a sequence of 201 square pulses which turn out to vary in length, unexpectedly so. I was hoping to get the Mean and Std-Dev by measuring +Width and turning on Statistics.

Strangely, Statistics only looks at the last of the 201 frames until I start manually flipping through the history with the Universal Knob. But I do have to do that very carefully and slowly otherwise it skips frames. Is that the only way? It seems there should be a better solution to get statistics on the history of frames, no?

My FW is 6.1.35R2, but I had pretty much the same issue with 6.1.26

With any measurement you must give the DSO enough sample points to work with to give meaningful results.
Generally the more waveform cycles you give it the better the results will be however there is a tradeoff in that give if too many and it will slow results some. Trial and error with the timebase setting will indicate a sweet setting for fast and accurate results.

The waveform above looks just like a PWM as this one is from a Siglent STB-3.
Neither of these are from a Stopped SDS1104X-E but are captured waveforms to USB on the fly.

My hope was to get statistics on the finite number of traces I had captured in the sequence and not on some random traces.
And since they are all saved it would be rather simple, no time constraints. And as I mentioned, I can even get what I need by slowly flipping through the traces.

So at this point, I just would like to suggest a software improvement, namely that statistics is applied to the traces stored in a sequence if the acquisition has stopped.
Not holding my breath though...

Ok I can't find the main page for this so.........

How do I "save last settings" on the SDS1100/1200 models ? I suppose I could turn it off w/ the button, but.......

Just now I had the mains power lines flickering, due to a storm, I never checked the weather, I just thought it was the power gird on the fritz. So despite the scope being on for a while, each time I lost my settings, and it just loaded the settings from the last proper power down procedure.

Save/Recall>Save>Setup>Internal or External.
Internal memory provides for 10 setups.

^ No RTFM as this is just intuitive.....have a play.....Recalls in a second or 2 and just works !
