So today I have mostly been calibrating the RS-14 DMMs and let's just say they are not the best but for a cheap general purpose meter they do. Now one thing I had a few times was that the meter would give me some rather shocking readings. 100 mV AC would show as almost 200 mV. I was about to say this meter is a little out then I remembered this has happened before with cheap meters. Put in a new 9 V battery and it's back to where it should be. What I thought was odd was there was no warning from the meter that the battery was low. I measured one of the batteries at 8.7V. Something to keep an eye on if you have odd readings. Laugh of the day was a gentleman being very fussy about me calibrating this thermometer ASAP as he is using it and I might mess up his test if I don't get it back. Well I went to my bench and turned it on, flat battery. Well he managed to get the 9V down to 1.1V and when I asked for a new battery he sheepishly disappeared as everyone stated to take the piss. |
