RTM3000 vs RTA4000 Noise
(1/2) > >>
YetAnotherTechie:
Hello, as you know, one of the big differences between RTM and RTA series is that noise is a specified* parameter.
So I'm creating this post to enlist your help and get a comparison running.
To make the comparison valid regardless of the bandwith you have installed, it has to be done inside the DEMO app.
Let the scope warm up for 20min.
Perform the following commands:
Preset
Apps
Demo
Advanced
Noise
Start
Turn on Channels 2,3,4
Set them to 50 Ohm and 500uV, verify that bandwith shows as "full"
Press the "forward" arrow on the app window, until you reach the one titled "how much noise?"
set channel 1 to 500uV
press measure and add measure places 2,3,4 of type o-Std Deviation for channels 2,3,4
Reset statistics
the "how much noise?" window should still be showing, otherwise you exited the demo app!
once you reach above 2000 wave counts Print screen

Post results!

My RTM3004 is 100.54uV max  :)

1GHz, as long as you don't touch too many buttons or exit the demo app.

Hello,

my RTA has no Demo Noise.

Enclosed measures with 1 GHz and 200 MHz and 20 MHz with auto memory (6.06 KSa) and 20 MHz with 1 MSa

In sensitive range RTB, RTM and RTA are good. But in insensitive range the new LeCroy are much much much better.
I remember a paper from LeCroy about comparison of noise between different Scopes (LeCroy, Tektronix, Keysight, RS ). In this paper they wrote RTA noise ist too bad for the comparison.

Best regards
egonotto

about the same on mine (not warmed up)
