Post by: emartine on June 28, 2016, 11:30:42 pm
Hello. This is my first post so please be patient with me.
Anyone know the Sanwa Cd772 multimeter ?
Is it any good?

These are some of its specs:

How much does it cost in US dollars
If too much there is a Bryman South American dealer here on the forum (sorry do not remember his name)

I am not in the US..  I can get it for more or less 140..
The thing is that there are no good multimeters here (besides Fluke).
For instance, I cannot get the BK precision 2709b in here..

Some used to say: "..all best stuff's made in Japan".

Just posted a few days ago that I bought a Sanwa PC 773, I think its the true-RMS dmm of the 77x series.

Been testing it side by side with a Fluke 87-V with some resistors, ac and dc voltages, low current masurements (in the 100 - 300 mA realm) and matches it nicely (to my little understanding, since I am by no means experienced or knowledgeable).

Capacitance actually is very interesting on the "high values" side of things for the sanwa 773, since it could measure a 15.000 uF cap, quite a high value.

The only drawback that I have found in the sanwa against the mentioned Fluke, is that the voltage used for the diode tester is about 2.8 volts, against the 7.3 volts used in the fluke (measured the voltage in diode test mode with each multimeter, I do not know if it is conceptually correct). Basically the fluke measured slightly different values for junctions on the 0.6 v realm, and the sanwa could not measure a Darlington transistor (about 1.2 v) and some LEDs. Keep in mind the Sanwa 77x is powered by 2 AA batteries and the Fluke by a 9V battery.

If it is of any value, I am fairly confident that the CD772 model would be a good dmm for light electronics use.

Thanks for sharing ! Cheers !

Sanwa is not in the same league as Hioki or Yokogawa. I suspect their meters are assembled in China and it shows. The quality doesn't seem to be much better than Uni-T.
Still fine for light hobby electronics work though.

Hi

Having looked around nearly all the old posts in Test Equipment, Sanwa seems to be a well respected brand for Analogue multimeters.

MJ Lorton seems to use one of the high end Samwa DMMs in recent youtube posts.

The one you have pointed out seems to be a low end one. There is little information about these here.
It certainly does not come anywhere near to matching a Fluke87, probably more like a Fluke114.
You may be better off looking at some of the other brands without enough information on the low end Sanwa.

Here the Sanwa DMMs are discontinued. http://uk.farnell.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?pageSize=25&st=sanwa&catalogId=15001&categoryId=700000005750&langId=44&storeId=10151 (http://uk.farnell.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?pageSize=25&st=sanwa&catalogId=15001&categoryId=700000005750&langId=44&storeId=10151)
Is there any Sanwa distributor in Europe?

Manufacturer's website does not say this one is made in Japan, so presume it is made in China.

https://www.sanwa-meter.co.jp/japan/products/digital_multimeters/cd772.html (https://www.sanwa-meter.co.jp/japan/products/digital_multimeters/cd772.html)

Unfortunately, now that Taiwan is officially China, it's had to figure which is made there. Taiwan is a lot more like Japan. Learnt manufacturing from Japan. Partly speaks Japanese. Made in China could be Japanese design and Japanese quality control with Chinese cheaper labor. Or could be contract design and manufacture.

Sanwa products made in Japan proudly say this. Eg:
https://www.sanwa-meter.co.jp/japan/products/digital_multimeters/cd732.html (https://www.sanwa-meter.co.jp/japan/products/digital_multimeters/cd732.html)

I get Japanese products from Monotaro.sg. These lower end Sanwa multimeters cost less than Dave's favourite PM300.
