Scope cart mod for Siglent SDS8xx series
« on: December 12, 2024, 02:39:00 am »
I've always liked having a scope cart because it puts the scope where I want it while sitting in a chair. Big old carts are too clunky for my new SDS824X HD, but there's an old Tek cart, the 200C, that's just right. There were several in the 200 series and the earlier ones are a bit narrower. I don't know if they'd work, but the 200C is about perfect. It needs a couple mods. I installed a 1' piece of plastic angle in the preexisting holes at the front of the cart to locate the front of the scope. I drilled a couple new holes for a larger aluminum angle at the rear to trap the scope. It rests nicely against the rubber bumpers on the back of the scope. This works well for moderate angles but for extra security I have some 1.5" nylon webbing and quick-release buckles coming from Amazon to put a loop around the scope, similar to the original Tek arrangement, but further forward. The original webbing is over the pivots, too far back for the Siglent. This should allow the scope to be safely tilted to any angle. (That latch pull in the center photo looks like it sticks up, but it's well below the platform.)

My favorite thing about this is that some people complain about the scope being too large. Now it's really big! 😉

I would go with a long arm. So i could have it floating where ever i want it, even over my table.

I guess it would work with other scopes too? Not really a "modification".

Today my strap should arrive and that should give maximum security. This thing is about choices. I can have the scope to my right, to my left or pop it off and put it on the bench, should I ever get it cleaned up enough do that. We have some monitor supports at work that can extend out and put a monitor just about anywhere. That would be a great solution for a lot of people. I've also seen roll-around equipment dollies at the hospital that might be an interesting solution for multiple pieces of test equipment. Could even hang an IV bottle of Mountain Dew if needed. I like things movable because I don't like cables draped over whatever project I'm working on, though it's usually unavoidable to some degree.

is the cart wobbly a bit  or seems solid  if you turn the cart by holding the scope

Cart is solid, rolls easily. Remember, these were designed for much heavier scopes, so it would have been bad if they tended to tip over!
