Hey, I have another noob question for you guys. How do you use these probes? These look like they screw on, but I can't find anything like that.

There are probes with thread.

Oh, ha. Do you have any recommendations for good ones that don't screw on? I saw the flukes ones, but they're like $40 for a set.
-
Some threaded probes are designed to take mating alligator clips that won't disconnect easily. I have a pair on my ancient Simpson 260.

Frankie (iloveelevtronics) on the forum sells a really nice pair of gold plated Brymen ones.

+1 for threaded probes, the clips either the hook type or alligator won't detach easily by accident cause even the good one like Fluke that has circumferential holding at it's tip can't beat the screw on type.
Example on circumferential holding type, its just a small ring that is holding the tip.

While this example Mueller probes that are using screw on type, from this picture its obvious the alligator clip attachment to the probe is much more stronger than Fluke above.

Same Mueller probes as above but paired with the screw on hook type tips.

To OP, if you're really want a good probe that has good attachment on it's clip, suggesting screw on type is the best, especially for the hook type as a gentle jerk move by accident will easily detach it from the probe head, and you don't want this to happen especially you're measuring in current mode. |O

So is this threading standard or do I have to pair them?

As far as I know the threading is anything but standard. Every manufacturer seems to have a different thread and is not compatible with another.

How would you screw on alligator clips then?
I'm thinking of getting this because it has affordable screw on hook clips

Well depends on what your gonna do. Those are the cheap PVC kind, not the nice, flexible Silicone like Franky has.

Since both made by Uni-T, I think that is your best bet for pairing them.
-
Could you recommend me a specific set of screw-on probes, hook clips, and alligator for me? And you guys must all be quite acquintanted to Franky lol.

Disclaimer: They are all my customers...LOL!
I have these in my eBay store, among many other accessories (hope this won't be considered spam):

I also have some Brymen original slip-on croc clips now but have yet to list them in my store. They have gold plated spring contact where you connect the probe tips. See attached photos.
Cheers,
Franky

Do you have any screw-on hook clips as well? I just don't want to have too many cables around to tangle.
Unfortunately no. Brymen's probes have threads but they only seem to make the lantern spring attachment using those threads. Same deal with Fluke and Agilent it seems. Their croc clips are slip-on. I have looked at some cheap Chinese screw-on clips but they are really cheaply made and only pair with their very own very cheap leads so I would not recommend them at all.

Oh okay. I guess I'll just get separate cables for those. How do I order directly rather than ebay?

Please send me a PM with your Paypal email address and the items you like and I'll send you an invoice directly. Thanks!

I have used these leads almost daily since 1990. The threads are 8-32 [like my Fluke] and the leads are threaded at both ends. One end has straight male screw and the other end has a 90 degree male screw. P/N TL57A
http://www.usprobes.net/testleadkits.htm (http://www.usprobes.net/testleadkits.htm)very good quality and you can buy from the site.
Thinking of getting another set, this time the PAK5. http://www.usprobes.net/pak5kit.htm (http://www.usprobes.net/pak5kit.htm) :)

I've bookmarked US Probes web site for a very long time, very intrigued to buy from there, its just I don't need extra new probes or accessories for now.
Malch, how are the cables that you bought in 90 ? Are they still very flexible "noodly" like and has the wet look & feel ?
-
They are super flexible rubber not silicone. They have survived really well. They are dirty from years of handling them. I havent cleaned them with any chemicals.
I screw the hook into the 90 degree end to give my thumb something to press on. :)
p.s. They sell parts. http://www.usprobes.net/accessories.htm (http://www.usprobes.net/accessories.htm)
