Hi guys.
I have been looking into buying a function generator for a while now.
I have to mention that it would be my first function generator i own, I have used other function generators in the past that are more than 20 years old.
I am looking for a good general purpose function generator. I am not specialized in any specific field.
I am not into RF at all.
My two candidates are the SDG6022X and SDG2122X.
My problem is that a bunch of functions of the 6000 series are pretty useless for me , i don't foresee myself ever doing anything offered by the IQ modulation.
Looking at the datasheet , the symbol rate and carrier frequency makes me wonder if the IQ section of the 6000 series is more of a gimmick than a serious
function generator for advanced modulation techniques.
Correct me if am wrong though , i am no expert in that field.
On the other hand the 6000 series can do square wave up to 80MHz where as the 2000 series can do only up to 25MHz. That would make the 6000 series a more suitable clock source.
The other advantage of the 6000 series vs. 2000 series are the faster edge rise and fall times of the 6000 series.
What kind of engineer / technician / hobbyist should go for the 6000 series and and what kind should go with the 2000 series ?
Please let me know what you guys think of the 2000 series vs the 6000 series.

Apart from IQ and max frequency they are very similar AWG's although the 6kX also has a faster sample rate and longer memory.
The SDG2kX range as you know provide a max of 120 MHz whereas 6kX is 500 MHz and as both this series can be enhanced SDS2042X and SDG6022X are the popular sellers.
IQ for 6kX is a $670 option not included in the base price.

Now if 60 MHz is fast enough for your clock requirements and you also want/need faster edges consider the SDG1062X however these are only 14 bit.

If you have the money: go for the Tektronix AFG31000 series and don't look back. You'll have a much better user experience. Siglent SDG2k series is nice but lacks versatility in some areas and has issues when synchronised to an external reference (depending on firmware version).
I went through quite a few signal generator options: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tektronix-afg31022-review/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tektronix-afg31022-review/)
