Title: SDS2000X Japan review
Post by: markone on February 02, 2016, 10:47:31 am
Looking for reviews about new Siglent SDS2000X DSO/MSO family, i found the following japan webpage :

http://blog.goo.ne.jp/electronics_diy_5/e/b6a7dbf19356d72278f3fc3fe305815f? (http://blog.goo.ne.jp/electronics_diy_5/e/b6a7dbf19356d72278f3fc3fe305815f?)

with a sort of review, "not sure if serious".

FFT function, showed at the end of the page, seems to be the usual useless gimmick toy that we can find in most cheap scope, i was hoping in a something better, at least with 64Kpts, but it does not appear the case.

Hello

Yesterday I noticed this comment.lol
I wrote this review mostly described in Japanese.
I have SDS2304X with the full options as demo, which I got from Siglent Sales Manager.
Actually I am one of a primary supplier of Siglent in Japan.
I am also HAM Radio Operator,Japanese 1st class as same as Extra in USA,I got the license,
when I was junior high, have been passed more than 35years.
I have already made up home-built Software Defined Radio Transceiver by myself, with the limiting amplifier(for the mic system).
And,also I built up ARM7-Based FM Tuner/AR1010 FM module(I2C)/MP3 Player,so when I test I2C protocol,I use it to evaluate.

As you know,FFT function of stand-alone digital oscilloscope, almost all these kind of osc has the limitation to do fast refresh rate,I mean,
the log sweep speed is limited, partly because of MCU's performance, and other it is not audio range FFT spectrum analyzer.
This FFT relevant issue is not only to SDS2000X series.
If you try to measure the voice of FM receiver for insatnce, now we can use PC-Based FFT analyzer, especially in Japan,WaveSpectra is so famous,
very fast refresh rate. What we have to be cautious,we have to make up the accessories(using diode etc)to avoid destroying the soundcard.
(overload protection circuits).
Very long time ago,so-called the digital spectrum analyzer was up there, measuring the microphone characteristics up to 100kHz,it was of course FFT AF analyzer,
now we have to purchase the real-time RF FFT analyzer, but these are too pricey.lol Or also the audio analyzer is too expensive.lol
What I want to say, anyway to measure music or voice, the stand-alone digital osc's FFT function is not enough capability.
So SDS2000X series's FFT refresh rate is better than the one of RIGOL MSO/DS1000Z series, but now still not enough.
I think,it is a bit harsh to owe the responsibity,I guess.lol
Now not yet available to use the persist,so if you hope to measure BPF,you make up the added circuits, and you have to use X-Y mode, the way of which
is the traditional measurement method to evaluate the DUT's pass-band.

Now as you know,Siglent recently released the newest firmware,so I think, almost no problem for the hobbyists.
Major improvement
(1)We can now use the keypad, for instance we can put the frequency up to 1Hz,when we use the signal generator.
(2)The decoding function added Binary,ASCII,Decimal including Hexadecimal.
(3)Sequence mode has been improved.

I am not sure, but in future I will write the impression in English.

Anyway,if you have the question,I will reply.

Thanks
