SDS800X "EDU"
« on: October 01, 2024, 07:18:32 am »
I noticed there's a model called SDS800X "EDU", and seems no information here?
Looking at the spec, I found almost no difference.

Anyone?
The EDU version only shown on Chinese website, and Chinese datasheet only, and I can found some resources on the Siglent China website about the SDS800X EDU.

Same 2G/s, 2Mpt FFT, what is the marketing meaning of this SDS800X EDU? Perhaps even cheaper?

Yep, not available to the west.

Might be like SDS1000X-C, local market only and UI only in Chinese.

Like other say, it is educational model for domestic market and domestic market only.

And as you well noticed, unlike some Keysight EDU scopes, this one is not deliberately made less powerful.
It is simply a different pricing model for their domestic educational market based on full model.

That said, China market EDU models may also be a prohibited export where China resellers will be penalised by Siglent if caught exporting.

After some contact with their customer service, I notice some differences:
EDU:
No 80X EDU models, there're 2 classes of EDU, 812/814 EDU & 822/824X EDU
BW=120MHz for 812/814X EDU, 220MHZ for 822/824X EDU
All model 100 Mpts/ch(Single Chanel), while 50Mpts/ch for 804/814, till 824X HD will be 100Mpts.
Seems to have more integrated AWG options for teaching.

In sum, most major differences are:
(802/804+812/814)HD  100MHZ , 50/100MPts --->(812/814)EDU   120MHZ, 100MPts
822/824HD 200MHz, 100MPts---->822/824EDU  220MHz, 100MPts

So, with EDU version, you get +20MHz BW at least;but the prices are still unknow.
There are ~30USD coupon for SDS800X HD in TAOBAO, my guess is that the EDU will keep the same price without 30USD coupon, for the extra 20MHZ I think.
But the weird thing is, if this EDU version of SDS800X is for China's domestic education market,
Why do they still have Language options of English and some others?

Because it is less work not to do anything and simply use same basic scope, then to spend time getting English out from a scope that they just spend lots of money to put English in...
As for BW, it is the same. Standard versions have already in excess of 200/100MHz BW respectively.
They could easily claim 220/120 MHz BW for all models, but they didn't because it doesn't matter.
It is the same scope. You are wasting your time.

And even if it is cheaper you cannot buy it legally unless you are in China and qualify for EDU requirements.
If you are in China and qualify, then what is the problem, just get it.

"EDU" is just a label on the same product to fit specific market requirements. Nothing of interest to outsiders.

EDU models / test equipment aimed at educational purposes typically comes with coursework to help the teacher (which is also where the real money savings are) and features specifically aimed at education (like disabling the auto-set button). Just slapping an EDU badge on an instrument and calling it a day ain't gonna cut it.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Your comment in context of this topic is a bit misplaced and missed the target.
We were not discussing quality of EDU curriculum on scope brands in China.
We were answering to a direct question by a person that asked if EDU version is different hardware that retail version.
It is not. That is all.

And how do you know Siglent does not have EDU curriculum developed with Chinese universities? For Chinese market. That this scope is for.
