I had a look at it and might get it in the future as a backup, but it only allows for max. 400ma in current (at least for testing), so I can't really use the current function much for my purposes.

I am looking mostly at small battery powered things at the moment (5V or less).

Oh, ok. I didn't think you would exceed 400mA. You can always use a 5$ 10A current shunt with it, for those occasions.
Before you buy the UT61E, you must know that its burden voltage is probably the highest amongst the popular meters (10.83mV/mA and 670uV/uA). If you work with low voltages, take that into consideration.

I decided to go with the UT120C for now, as I'm only a teenager and consequently *really* poor compared to most adults (I'm paying for this with my allowance). I will get the UT61E later on, I might put it on my Amazon wish list and get someone else to buy it for me ;).

Pretty good decision. Start small, and then, as requirements (and allowance  ;) ) grow, get better stuff.

Yes the UT120 is a good buy too of course. Just be careful when you are poking around those flash caps. When you do decide to buy another meter, I would recommend something better than the UT16E, one cheap meter is enough! Well... having said that it is not bad meter at all for the price probably one of the best featured and most accurate but just not the safest. I would really want to recommend something with real safety though as your next meter. Being a young player, having something safe will keep you alive when you aren't thinking about safety at your age.

i own a 8261 ... great meter and i tested it against my fluke for volts and ohms but still it was just a few LSDs off!  :-DMM

i never expect much out of a $30 meter but this one was nice!
My one regret in life is learning to speak English on the internet ...

There's one Mastech multimeter that's actually one of my favourites (and I have A LOT of multimeters!), it's the MS8250C.

Is there an English manual available for this? I cannot seem to find one online...
