Siglent SDG1032X Help needed
« on: May 09, 2019, 08:48:12 am »
Hello,

I am the owner of a Siglent SDG1032X and recently I have damaged the part of the board that provides the higher than 2V power for both channels (I have no idea what so ever how this happened).
The machine is now only useable for up to 2V, so basically kind of useless.
I have identified the damaged part, but unfortunately the ICs are burned beyond recognition, so I have no way to know what is the part number.
This is were I need the help of someone that is brave enough to open one and read the IC number.
Attached is a photo of the board that I found in a post in this forum were I have marked the 2 ICs (they are identical. One for each channel).
Sadly I was not able to identify them from this photo too.

I will be very grateful to anyone that can provide me this information so that I can rework the board.

Why you do not first ask Siglent how much spare part (signal board) price is and after know this, then if really need, think other solutions. Asking do not cost anything.

It is not so easy rework as someone may think. I believe you need perhaps solder also bottom chip thermal pad(?). (and how you know there is not other damages related to these chips if they are really burned.)
I drive a LEC (low el. consumption) BEV car. Smoke exhaust pipes - go to museum. In Finland quite all electric power is made using nuclear, wind, solar and water.

Of course I have done this before, the price is very close to buying a new one as they have it on offer (as the representative told me). As for the rework, It's easy to do as I do have all the necessary equipment to do so. I have done this many times for more difficult ICs.

As for the post (that disappeared) that points to the service manual, I have seen it and I have read it couple of times, but there are no board details in it except of some test points to test the board.

is it the same part as U45 on the same board?  (on left of image near inductor L57 - black/blue circle)

What I am saying is your U45 might be intact and might be the same part? So you could read the identifiers and try and make out if it matches the images for  U16 and U22 - as hard to read as they are.

Could they be the same as in SDG2000X models ?

U16 and U22. It is were I have marked on the image you posted.

I see what you mean, but at first glance from the image, you will notice that U16 and U22 are sitting on a copper pad and this is because the ICs have a cooler pad underneath. I do not see that on U45. And It will also be impossible to much them since there is nothing left to be read from the burned ICs.

What I am saying is your U45 might be intact and might be the same part? So you could read the identifiers and try and make out if it matches the images for  U16 and U22 - as hard to read as they are.

No they are not. The ones I am looking for are SO8 package types.

Yes!!! these might be the ones, I crossed referenced with couple of letters I was able to read from the burned ones, and they look like a match.

Thank you all very much for the help.

In SDG1000X series these amplifiers are Texas Instruments THS3095

(I recommend that do not use pin to pin "compatibles" - if there exist any)

Old times Siglent change in some old SDG1000 version output amplifiers (perhaps cheaper ones or just accidentally) and even when "compatible" they was not perfectly compatible and this leads to some instability problems (parasitic oscillations) specially with some reactive loads (mismatch) with some output levels and frequencies. (old case many ears ago)

Not as cheap as I expected, but wayyyyyy cheaper than buying a new generator.

@barsam
Buried in the menus is an output protection that you might want ensure is ON so the output stages are less likely to get fried.
RTFM  ;)

Tautech can I ask exactly how the output protection works. Does it open circuit the output? As it seems the sig gens can be used with offsets and amplitudes that trip it. But its never been clear if its just to protect the output op amp or more circuitry

2.13.10 Overvoltage Protection
When overvoltage protection occurs, a message will be displayed and the output is disabled.
---- The absolute value of input voltage is higher than 11V±0.5V when the amplitude of the generator is higher than or equal to 2Vpp or the DC offset is higher than or equal to |3VDC|.
---- The absolute value of input voltage is higher than 4V±0.5V when the amplitude of the generator is lower than 2Vpp or the DC offset is lower than |3VDC|.

Not that I've looked up the spec on the Texas Instruments THS3095 but I strongly suspect there'll be a reverse voltage spec that can be tolerated for a very short duration before damage occurs and therefore because this is a specialized part for sig gen outputs it likely provides a overvoltage flag that both generates a flag on the display and also opens the output relay/s.
Some study of the datasheet and typical implementation examples should provide definitive answers.  ;)

By the way, I had this option setup at some point, but since I have no idea when the damage happened, I can not tell for sure if it was before or after I set it up.

So are you saying that there are some deals on the SDG1032X? I am thinking about purchasing one but the Sydney retailer, the one that insists you call for prices now, does not seem to be discounting.

Ok, strike that......I just noticed that you are not local. Those flags are reeelly small.

Welcome to the forum.

The SDG1000X deals are for the NA and EU markets only it seems.  :(
I haven't been offered better buying deals to pass onto customers so the AU/Oceania market must be excluded.  >:(

Siglent distributors are bound by agreement not to undercut factory RRP however we can sell for more than RRP if we need to cover the costs of doing business.

You can always take your chances with warranty, distant and remote product support and buy from overseas online sellers and not support your local guy..........remember he's the guy that will support you when you need it as his customer.  ;)

Thankyou.

The problem is that the "local guy" seems to have developed an extreme case of corporatetitis and therefore, one tends to become just another number.

I understand, yes Trio is part of another company now and I'm not sure if Charles is still involved but I know he was for a while.
Still you have EEVblog and the # of us distributors to help if needed and bring any issues to the attention of Siglent and they can work with your distributor to give the customer satisfaction.

Still, support your local guy where you can.  ;)
