Siglent SDG5000 / SHS800 - upgrade hack/unlock (SOLVED)

I haven't buy a SHS1000. I need a handheld oscilloscope with isoated inputs. The SHS1062 has e nice size and the best price compared to the RTH1002.

Here's a weird one!
I picked up a second-hand SHS806 but noticed that I just get a white background, on boot, rather than the snazzy graphic splashscreen others seem to have!
Anyone know the possible reason for that!?
Is it just a graphic file dumped on the built in storage?
Like if I connected it in USB "Printer" mode to the PC (Mass Storage), should I see it there, but someone has deleted it, possibly!?
(I wouldn't have thought so, but who knows!?)

My therapist believes this to be the main cause of my inferiority complex.........

Which firmware release do you have installed in the scope?
I suggest to install official 5.09.01.05 firmware that comes with two files (.ads. and .cfg, follow inside instructions).
Then you go with 5.09.01.07 patched by tv84.

In some Siglent devices boot splash screen is inside .cfg file (but tv84 and other expert users can be more precise than me).
And I suspect that your actual firmware wasn't properly installed.

I should have stated, it came with 5.09.01.05 and I downloaded and installed 5.09.01.07 from Siglent at:

And I made a comparison at:

This was, in both cases, a zip file containing only 2 pdf instruction files and SHS800_5.09.01.07.ADS file.
No .cfg file.

The pdf instruction files made no mention of a .cfg file, either.
Basically, the instructions were to put the .ADS file onto a USB stick and plug it in....
Go into the menu to "Update Firmware"
Select the .ADS file in the file browser type window.

It displayed a green progress bar.
The installation appeared to work.
It now reports the new firmware in "System Status"

The device had a white splashscreen when I received it.
It still has a white splashscreen after the firmware update.

The device appears to function quite happily in all other regards.

I'm starting  to think that the previous owner probably updated to 05 without using the procedure for the .cfg part of the update.

I have now updated to firmware 07
This does not come with a .cfg file. (At least from the 2 Siglent sites I downloaded from!)

So, can I downgrade from 07, back to  05, this time using the correct (.cfg) procedure?

Or, can I simply re-apply the 07 update, but using the .cfg file from the 05 firmware download?

I am confused as to why the 07 firmware does not contain a .cfg file!?

You can use the .cfg at any time provided it's the correct .cfg of that model.

BTW, the .cfg has some protection to allow only permitted installation BUT we never know...

Ok......

I reasoned that:

The latest firmware (07) requires a minimum existing firmware of 05 (For some reason).
The 05 comes with a new .cfg (Probably the reason it must be installed before 07!?)
The 07 does not come with a .cfg
The .cfg file used in the 05 update must stay on the machine when doing the 07 update, as there appears to be no .cfg file included with the 07 firmware, plus the 07 instructions makes no mention of a .cfg file..

So, I simply carried out the .cfg part of the update instructions from the 05 firmware update (although I've already installed 07)

It seemed to work.
It stated "Update Successful"

I rebooted.....

The splash screen is now there during boot ! 

I finished with the self-cal procedure.

All seems OK.....

Sorry for the late reply.
I tried MCBD *key* with the generated keys. Both in lowercase and uppercase latters.
I used my S/N and the type that the scope gave me over SCPI to generate the keys.
Tried on both original 810 firmware and the modded 804 firmware from tv84. Never got a reply from the scope but after all those tests and restarts my power on timer had increased by 30.

Got it working now. Dont know where the problem was, but trying on another computer with an older version of windows but newest NI-VISA and EasyScope did the trick.

I used this script and filled in the data i got from my scope over SCPI.

I copied the generated key directly into EasyScope with uppercase letters. Got no response from the device over SCPI but after a restart it showed SHS815 on the splash screen as well as in the device info.

Quick question, for SCOPEID, I cant get a response from my SHS806.  Did you just put SHS815 in that field?

You can use S/N instead of SCOPEID.

Thanks.  So im definitely doing something wrong.

Here is the section of that code.  For the model, I have left it as is but I also tried one as SHS815.
SCOPEID = 'SHS8000413xxxx'
SN      = 'SHS8000413xxxx'
Model   = 'SDS1000X-E'

Same result on the SHS, still stuck at SHS804.  I used the 150M option that came out of the code.
In the Siglent EasyScopeX software, I pasted MCBD HUIRZXNPXVM4Y2KF
No response but that seems normal.  On re-powering the scope, same SHS804 as before.

Any ideas where im messing this up?  Thanks!

Stuck at SHS804 as well, and unable to get correct MCBD code for 150M option on an SHS806.

Quick question, why on some Siglent equipment, does the upgrade persist with a reflash to stock firmware, but go away with this particular upgrade on the SHS806?

The SHS uses an license upgrade feature like all others. BUT, it seems Siglent locked it with a flag that resides on the CPLD.

In order to upgrade it like almost all others one would have to change that CPLD byte. Then you wouldn't need a patched FW.
