Siglent SDL1020X-E high pitch (16kHz) noise upon button press (defect?)
MaTkEOxjC:
Hello,
I bought an Siglent SDL1020X-E from Welectron.
But is seems to make some unexpected high pitch (16kHz) noises upon button presses sometimes
Always at ~16kHz, very annoying.
Sometimes for a fraction of a second, sometimes continuously until the next button press occurs.
Here's a video of it: https://youtu.be/jKyPVK1_bkw (after cold start)
Second Video after the device has been running for 15-30 minutes. https://youtu.be/AnLyCtdi098
The long noise intervals are well visible on the waterfall chart, the short 16kHz chirps just show up as small dots.
It only happens on button press (or sometimes encoder wheel turn) when the key sound is on.
When the key sound is switched off in the menu it does not appear.
So I suspect that it's either the beeper hardware or software/button de-bouncing.
Software installed is latest 1.1.1.22R1
Phone App is Specdroid (db levels are relative to maximum mic input, not normal audio db)
I've sent it as RMA to the German Siglent service, but they were not able to reproduce it and sent me back the device.
Has anyone else had something like that?
Honestly this is not what I've expected from Siglent devices.

Yes the same.
It is under investigation at HQ.
Can we ask your age as it seems audible only to young engineers with good hearing.
I don't hear it.
Further, can you confirm when key sound is OFF no 16kHz noise is apparent ?

Oh, that's good. I thought I got a defective unit.
But I'm a bit delighted that it's a series issue. So requesting a replacement does not make sense.
Do you have a case reference / reference number from Siglent HQ?
I was not aware that this is a known issue.
I'm below 30, my hearing is still quite ok.
I can also notice the very short (fraction of a second) 16kHz noises that sometimes appear upon button presses.
And yes, when I switch the key sound off in the settings I'm not able to reproduce it.

:phew:
This I had not tried so many thanks for confirming such.
Only recently has this been bought again to my attention after lending a unit to a customer for appraisal some months back and we visited them last week to have several young engineers present that could hear 16kHz....I can't.
Only after the visit have I reported this issue to Siglent.
In tests I did have a reduction in 16kHz noise after updating to latest FW.
This happened after this thread started: (incorrectly named)

MaTkEOxjC:
I've sent it back for a second RMA to Germany.
They replaced the Mainboard (not sure which they mean) and sent it back to me without following up this time.
The error still exists.
My guess would be that it's a software error in the button de-bouncing. But it's a guess.
I'll keep it as is. It's functional so far.
I'm just no longer interested into investing further time into that. Maybe my expectations are jut too high.
