Howdy again everyone,

I'm just about ready to throw the towel in with siglent. I have had 3 different units, two of which were verified by the engineers as defective and returned, and now this third one is exhibiting the exact same behaviour. what happens at first is the interface starts locking up briefly, the display will freeze on the last value for a few seconds, then become responsive again. on the first unit I bought, it started doing this at first, then progressed to locking up solid multiple times a day,  requiring a cold restart. after chatting with a siglen t engineer, he verified it was defective and OKed an RMA. my second unit (this unit) worked a treat, and I eventually bought a third unit, which exhibited this behaviour right out of the box so I sent it back and bought a keithly, which I am absolutely in love with.

the 3045 is my secondary meter and literally has only one job to do these days: display voltage on two pairs of the yellow ethernet cable seen in the video below. everything in my lab gets powered down each night and turned back on in the morning. all three units were running the latest firmware available at the time.

if this were an occasional lockup, I could forgive it for the price point it is at, but these lockups get progressively worse until the unit needs to be rebooted multiple times daily. there is no way I am the only person experiencing this, I'm not doing anything abnormal with this meter, it literally just gets turned on and reads voltage.

Totally  :-//
Not at all interested in your Google drive share stuff so post it here for all to see.

We've sold a # of these units without problems whereas a friend thought he'd get a Keithley and had no end of issues with it and it got shipped back and forth until they finally got it sorted. Sounds like you had better luck with yours.

Tautech is asking for the direct link to the youtube video and not a link to a password-protected google drive.

My 3045 locked up a couple of times. I didn’t know how to re-create, and a turn off/turn on cured it. It has the latest firmware, so looking forward to new firmware if a fix is found. One 3045 with second to last firmware didnt lock up. Might be a coincidence… Sorry I cant be more specific about the circumstances, I will keep an eye on it going forward.

does it lock up like mine does? ie. the screen basically is just frozen? for the previous two units I had it would freeze like that for a few seconds, then be good for a bit, then freeze for a few seconds, and get progressively worse until it just locks up solid and needs a reboot

When mine locked, it stayed locked, but I didn’t leave it locked for too long.

What are you talking about, there is no buttons on the back.

There is something else going on as this units just don't give problems.

haha you are right, I was completely misremembering that. it's been months since I dealt with this issue, and for some reason I remember having to toggle the switch on the back, but obviously there isn't one, so the soft button must be working since I didn't unplug it this last time.

anyhow, I don't know what you suggest, the guy before me sounds like he has the same problem I've had with all 3 of my units, and I'll remind you that I spoke with a siglent engineer who verified that my first unit was defective

Garbage.
MarkKn clearly stated he didn't get to the bottom of why his froze.

Yours OTOH is quite different if your pissing with a LAN cable was reliably making it momentarily freeze.
Why would you do that it it don't like it ?
Wouldn't getting a cheap LAN switch be a less stressful solution ?

I mean his symptoms are the same as mine, ie. interface freezing requiring a reboot.

I don't think you understand what is going on here, I have a cat5e cable that is split into two banana jacks, so that I can use this as an easy probe instead of shoving normal probes inside an RJ45 jack awkwardly. it does the exact same thing with a normal set of probes measuring anything else as well, this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I am using a cat5 cable as a probe, in fact I am only using this specific setup because I am using this meter as a secondary meter now; previous to getting the keithly, the 3045 was my primary meter and did the same thing with normal probes.

hell man, I could literally remove everythign but the power cord and it will still lock up.
