I purchased the SIGLENT SDS1072CML a couple of weeks ago. The device I have received has hardware version 11-62-3.5 and software version 5.01.02.22.

What I'm disappointed with is that no matter what memory mode is selected (long or normal), the single button captures in low memory mode, this renders the long memory (2M) useless since you can't use it for captured signals unless you use run/stop button, but doing that doesn't have the same effect as the single trigger.

Hoping that someone from Siglent is reading this, here is a wish list for the next firmware release:
  • Single trigger should be able to capture in the user selected memory mode, normal or long instead of forcing normal
  • When a channel is off, the auto button should not enable it and try to detect a signal from it but ignore it.
  • For settings where there is an A and B setting (e.g. the two cursors cur A and cur B) the click of the intensity adjust button should change between them (like in Rigol) rather than having to use the screen side buttons. There should also be a mode that moves both cursors simultaneously (like in Rigol)
  • The user should have the option to selectively add single measurements to the screen rather than having to add all the time and all the voltage related measurements. For example being able to add only Vpp, period and +DUT on the screen like shown when auto is pressed
  • There should NOT be a language selection popup every time the oscilloscope is turned on, this is annoying

A few good suggestions here, I will point Siglent to this post.
But I ask, as your refer to Rigol, what model are you comparing the SDS1072CML to?
If the Rigol model you refer to is at a similar price point, your comments are worth noting.

You can select a range of single measurements to be displayed in the menu area.

Language popup on boot, refer to this post:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/siglent-technical-support-join-in-eevblog/msg468451/#msg468451

All DSO's have varied UI's and they all take time for user familiarity and the "second nature" of operation to develop.
I am sure in time you will appreciate the robustness and functionality for your Siglent.

I refer to the Rigol DS1052E which is a much older model and currently cheaper.
Here is the relevant part of a video that shows what I describe regarding the cursors http://youtu.be/B0ajIBb4EU4?t=6m15s
You can select between curA, curB and cur A & B just by clicking the intensity adjust button. (Currently SDS1072CML has no curA&B at all)

You can select a range of single measurements to be displayed in the menu area.
Yes but the right side measure menu takes space that may be valuable, plus it can only show up to five measurements and the only alternative is to add in the screen all the voltage or time related measurements (shown in the bottom side of the screen). Why not ne able to add only a few of them?

Language popup on boot, refer to this post:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/siglent-technical-support-join-in-eevblog/msg468451/#msg468451
I will check it, thank you.

I'm quite happy from the oscilloscope performance with the exception of the single trigger problem I have described, the rest of the feature I request will just make the usage of the oscilloscope more enjoyable and more effective.[/list]

Hi, I've got a SDS1152CML. I checked out the measure function. I found that the default measure parameters is VPP, Vmax,Vmin,Period,Vrms , but you can choose the parameters you are interested in with the type menu in the measure.

Yes the five measurements in the right side can be selected independently,
but I meant the measurements shown in the left bottom area of the screen, like when auto is pressed:

There is currently the option to add ALL the time related measurements and/or ALL the voltage related measurements (like in the image below) but it would be more practical if the readings could be added selelctevelly (for example only Vpp, Vmean and Vrms or any user selected combination).

Alexan? thanks for your advice? we will improve it.

Thank you for your reply.
Regarding the forced normal memory mode for single trigger, I'm not sure if this was done intentionally or if it is a bug.
Since there is a model with a low memory (CNL) and a model with the high memory (CML) , I don't understand what is supposed to be the benefit of the 2Mpts memory when the user can not utilize it when capturing a signal. It can only be used while viewing a signal in real-time or randomly stopped (STOP button) and in both cases  the long memory makes little sense.

Here is what I describe with images. All images show the 1KHz test signal @250us

Here is an image when the oscilloscope is running in real time (red square) and the memory is set to long mode (green square), Notice the Waveform Preview Display (blue square) that shown the captured length vs what is visible.

Here is an image when the oscilloscope is stopped  using the RUN/STOP button (red square), notice that the memory mode (green square) still shows long and the Waveform Preview Display (blue square) still shown the same length as in real time.

Now this is the same signal captured with the single button (red square).  Notice that the memory mode (green square) has become grayed and has forced the normal (low memory) mode and the Waveform Preview Display (blue square) is now showing that the captured wave is much smaller that what it was with the long memory mode.

Yes , I know what you mean, but for different measures the parameters you want may be different, so I think it is ok to display all the measurements. But I think your idea is well worth thinking about for the SIGLENT.

@Siglent

I want to update the firmware of my SDS1072CML (HW Version: 11-62-3.7, bought in ~2015, Current FW Version: 5.01.02.29, never updated). None of the ADS files listed on https://www.siglent.eu/Downloads work: I get always this message:  "Product type does not match".

Welcome to the forum.

It is because the CML range was updated to the CML+ and now none of the official Siglent websites have the older CML model firmware. DO NOT attempt to install CML+ FW versions into older CML models.
In my records I have one later CML firmware version, P32 from Nov 15.

Summary of Changes:
1.added bandwidth update option
2.fixed some bugs (including trigger jitter problem. If use LongMemory and if timebase is 250us/div or less there is a jitter. If change to Normal memory no problem, if switch to Long Memory it appears.)

The .ads file is not large, only 1.5 MB so I can post it here or send it to you privately in an email.
PM your email and I can send it to you.

July 2015 Version: 5.01.02.32
http://siglentamerica.com/download/software/SDS1000CML_SSP_V100R005B01D02P32.rar

It says "Download does not exist"

Dear I want to confirm things before updating the firmware whether the product supports it or not. I purchased the re-branded DSO in Aug-2013 (INDIA) Metravi DSO-5070A 70MHz 2-Channel it came with Siglent User Manual and it's details are here under
Software Version: 5.01.02.13
Hardware Version: 11-62-3.3
Serial No. NEUxxxxxxxxxxx
Product Type: DSO-5070A

1. Can we identify from above details whether product is CML/CFL/CNL ?
2. Do we need to install all firmware updates released so far in incremental order or the last released update includes all the patches from previous firmwares ?

I very much require your help here. If you require me to open the case to identify correctly I can do that also if above details are not sufficient.

Sameer Dhiman

You will probably need to install a cfg file first to allow for the Siglent firmware to then be recognised and installed.
You can find that cfg file here:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/siglent-ads-firmware-file-format/msg2998250/#msg2998250

Is there any risk involved in installing CFG file ? I am asking this because I do not have any other DSO this is the only oscilloscope I have.

No.
It is necessary to install the firmware so DSO is changed from Metravi to Siglent and will accept the FW upgrade.

Looking at your model specs here:
https://www.metravi.com/single-product.php?prod=DSO-5070E&cat=Digital+Storage+Oscilloscope
It aligns to SDS1072CML:
https://www.batronix.com/shop/oscilloscopes/Siglent-SDS1072CML.html
Except the USB socket placement is different.  :-//

There is always a risk flashing another firmware into a DSO and only you can decide to take that risk.
IMO, with the USB socket in a different place it seems the HW is different so I would not attempt to make the firmware change until more information comes available.
YMMV

The model you looked at (DSO-5070E) is newer model and it is different from mine (DSO-5070A). They have removed DSO-5070A related material from their website but I dug out the web and I found the relevant document on another website. Please go through the attached document, I am 99% sure that 5070A is SDS1072CML now only 1% is left on your confirmation.

BTW, had Siglent released any update between P13 and P22 for CML ?

For that model, I think not.

But in the end, despite your "similarity" feeling it should be a decision of your own. You can't expect tautech to certify a crossflash of that kind because no one has done it before.

That doesn't mean it wont work. There is always a 1st attempt.

At a quick look through old files, apparently not but I maybe wrong.
Later 29 and 32 versions were released.
