Siglent SDS1104X-E In-Depth Review

Sparky Faraday:
@Performa01- THANK YOU for this review. This is so much more than a review, it is a tutorial for those with analogue scope knowledge, or perhaps even to those without. It is a primer for using the DSO. Your expertise and excellent writing style make it easy to understand.

I can now see what I have purchased and why you guys think it is so good and better than the Rigol and the GW scopes.

This should be on the Siglent site. It won't be but it should be.

All the best.
Sparks

Hi there!

I've been reading the phenomenal Performa01's review documents on this scope. Has been a very instructional reading but there's something I do not fully understand or, at least, I cannot reproduce. It is in the second document of the series (SDS1104X-E Review 26-50.pdf, page 41) regarding the X-Y feature. The document states in the first paragraph that this scope can display XY figures both in channels 1 & 2 and/or channels 3 & 4.

I cannot display XY figures with channels 3 & 4 no matter what I try. In fact, if I select the input waves in those channels in X&T mode, as soon as I select XY mode those channels are automatically disconected and channels 1 & 2 selected instead.

Am I doing something wrong?

Is this scope really able to display XY figures in channels 1&2 and/or channels 3&4 as described in that document?

(The scope is running SW 6.1.37R9  OS 8.3)

This review has been done with FW 6.1.12.

XY-mode was in software back then and supported all four channels, but as stated in the review it was relatively slow and ugly with no intensity grading.

As announced in the review, the XY-mode has been redesigned sometimes later (FW 6.1.25R1) and was then implemented in HW, which not only meant a major speed boost but also a much nicer rendering with intensity grading. But at the same time, the ability to support 4 channels has been dropped.

OK. Thanks a lot for your answer  :-+

Browsing my old data, I realised that I've never published the serial decode tests. Now even though they are most likely a little outdated by now, I still though I'd add them to the existing content (SDS1104X-E Review 2_174-201.pdf):
