Siglent SDS1104X-E Oscillioscope Measurement Logging Issues
« on: November 19, 2024, 06:21:35 pm »
Hello everyone,

This is my first post here at eevlog.com. I am an electrician by trade and starting to learn electronics just because I can to satisfy my inner geek. I am expeditiously learning to use my scope in order to address an issue at work.

I need to log a millivolt signal generated by a Fluke i410 Amp Clamp. Without going into details, this is the only way I can log the issues, and do not have ready access to the right equipment. It has its own power source that generates 1mV per amp. I have the scope set up to read the signal and have verified its accuracy with a separate amp clamp. The issue comes when I set up the scope to log measurements which I do believe i followed the instructions in both the owner's manual and instructions I found written by Siglent for Measurement logging. The measurement appears on the right screen showing the appropriate channel but the readings are all showing "---" along with other measurements that I did not select but are showing up on the right side with the one I did set up.

The signal is a little dirty and the frequency fluctuates wildly because of it I would imagine. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong and is there a way to clean up the picture? I would imagine there is but it will take a bit of time to sit down and really learn how to do so which I do not have time currently to do so. The Owner's manual is too basic. Because of the "noise," I can not do a sample logging but if there is a way to clean up the noise, I might be able to. As is, it's too much or the scope is too good as is so I need to "tone it done" some to go that route. I do not have access to a PQ logging meter and it almost takes an act of Congress to purchase one which again, I do not have time for.

EDIT: I figured out how to add the pictures. I also set up the scope with a different measurement and was able to successfully log the measurement so I am certain that the issue is all the background noise messing with my scope. I need a way to filter it out if possible.

Thoughts? Thank you in advance!

I attempted to attach pictures but didn't work. If someone can explain the process of how to post pics here, that would be swell! ;D I can post a link to my OneDrive file that has the pics in but not sure that would be appropriate, especially with my first post.

Thoughts? Thank you in advance!
Welcome to the forum.

When you post open the Attachments and other options link at the foot of the page and use the 2nd (more attachments) to add the screenshot files in formats the forum permits.
Don't use the 1st as there's a forum bug with it.  :horse:

Your screenshots will be added as thumbnails to the foot of your post then we can view them.

Logging was introduced as a new feature a couple years back with a new OS and firmware and these need be both installed for it to work correctly.
Please confirm your OS and FW version.

Thanx! Yeah, i figured out how to post pics now that I am on my computer and can see the "Attachment" button at the bottom of the screen versus looking for it on my phone. LOL!

Link to OP's other thread:

It seems this pic (a screenshot showing more cycles would be better) shows an insulation breakdown but we need to see more cycles to know if it's repetitive or not.

SDS1104X-E has an Ethernet plug on it's back.  You can pull out the data with SCPI and do analysis on it with a PC.

I have an 1104X-E and a Fluke i1010 clamp so if I get time I could set up and measure a signal like yours.  In the meantime you can try using the BW limit and the AVG function to clean up your signal some.  Are you trying to log the signal itself or a measurement of it?  If a measurement, are you just measuring the amplitude or RMS value of that AC signal or are there other parameters like frequency or something else?  You should be able to get a reasonable RMS value from the signal as shown, you shouldn't get "***" if it is set up right.
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.
