Title: Siglent sds1104X-E price drop?
Post by: Gege34 on January 07, 2019, 03:17:51 pm
Hi,

I just sold my venerable Agilent 54622D and so I will buy a replacement.
I have sold it mainly because I need bus decoding and segmented memory (and a more modern scope 8))
The two candidates for the replacement are Siglent SDS1104X-E and the new Rigol MSO5074.

With the new Rigol in the race, do you think that the price of Siglent will soon drop?

No.

for the price of one Rigol, you can buy two Siglents, why do you think they should drop the price? It is already very cheap.

It's just a question before I buy somethink and if I need to wait a little if the Siglent price drop.

To clarify my thought, I need an new oscilloscope and a logic analyser and a function generator.
I already have the function generator (JY6800) but I can sell it if I buy the Rigol.

If you think with hacked device I have two options:
- Siglent + logic probe + function generator
- Rigol + DIY logic probe in development (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/rpl1116-active-logic-probe-pod-for-1000z-series-teardown/) (function generator already included)
I think the price is near the same with a better device for the Rigol

If I buy the siglent I'm not sure to buy the dedicate logic analyser (SLA1016) but I prefer an external one (Somethink like DSLogic Plus) because I think it's more easy to use a PC interface to analyse bus and I can create my own protocole decoder.

As Fungus and tinhead says a price reduction is very unlikely as the SDS1104X-E already cleans up at it's price point (bare unit) and it's not until you start adding the options the cost runs away some. However all scopes that have inbuilt AWG's are at a disadvantage compared to a standalone AWG due to the low p-p output voltages and limited functionality they offer.
Adding a SDG1032X AWG or similar to the SDS1104X-E for Bode plots offers more additional capabilities like 2 channels, a 200 MHz counter, 20V p-p (HiZ) outputs plus external triggering options.

The X-E decoding is quite good and can be used for long messages in Sequence mode as rf-loop demonstrates here:

Thank you for your feedback.
I will probably buy the Siglent because it corresponds to my needs and is more in my price range.

Concerning the decoding part, for me the Siglent is ok if I only have one (maybe to) signal to decode like rf-loop exemple, but when I need more, the 16 logic input is difficult to view/manage on the scope screen and It's to bad it's not possible to give a name on all of there pin (I can do it on my old Agilent) or group it with a color.
So I thing for the logic part I buy something like a DSLogic Plus.
