Siglent: SDS1304CFL and SDS1302CFL

I just bought the four channel version (SDS1304CFL) for $1,291; the two channel version is going for $945. Ebay seller is "ndtsuppliers". My apologies if posting specific seller names is against the rules but hopefully not; these are screaming deals that I hope other members can benefit from.

I would have preferred the Instek GDS-3352 at 350 MHz, however, for less than half the price I figure my hobbying can tolerate the lesser scope. This scope is not terribly bad on paper with the high bandwidth being the most notable spec. Horizontal accuracy is lagging (100 ppm), the 7" screen has low resolution (480 x 240), record length is on the low side (24 kpts), and waveforms\s is not a published spec (however I suspect and hope this is at least in the 2,000 range).

If you can accept these limitations and want high BW and four channels, you will not beat this price at this time.

The seller named above only has an eBay rating of 125 however it's all positive except for one knucklehead who complained of getting a "fake"; as if he didn't understand the item was coming from China. Within hours of paying for the scope the seller contacted me to inform me he would declare the customs value as $459; nice, and to ask for my phone number to give to the shippers. Now, two days later, I have an eBay notification that the item has been shipped. So far so good.

I got a Fedex door tag for this today; I called for a hold and will be picking it up after work tomorrow at the Fedex office.

Six business days from Hong Kong to Florida, USA... not bad!

Curiosity is killing me; will this be a total piece of $%#@ or wil it be decent?

It's Siglent, so I wouldn't expect miracles. From my experience with Atten I can tell you, that Attens with the wide screen do not have better time domain resolution, it's only visual change. As Atten is very similar or identical to Siglent (Beware! Flame War warning!) i would expect similar approach in your scope.

And ofc i like 8 different Atten scopes that I saw and tested on different occasions always the firmware and interface was an utter shit.

Well an update...

I've had this scope for some time now and it's been all that I expected from a product in this price class; not perfect or high-featured but it appears and works as described. With that said, I encountered a serious issue three weeks into using it. I was capturing a single trigger slow waveform on a very long timebase (250 ms) and the scope locked up; it became totally unresponsive to any button or power cycling (I could power cycle it but the scope returned to the locked state upon power up).

I requested a return through the seller and he asked if it was ok if we tried for a solution through the manufacturer. Two days later the seller responded with a set of key strokes that indeed unlocked the scope and it has been fine ever since. The lockup should not have happened but I give it an excuse since I was pushing its' limits and pressing a lot of keys quickly. I decided to keep the unit and so far no other real problems.

The probe tips do not firmly attach onto the probe leads; every once in a while I'll get an odd waveform, or none, and I'll have to re-seat the tip onto the probe. This is annoying but it's hard to complain very much after paying such a low price for a 300 MHz unit.

The low screen resolution is quite noticeable especially if you are use to high resolution screens for computer and TV; the waveforms and letters appear blockier than they would on a high-res screen. This shortcoming was understood however, and when I want a nicer looking graph I simply export the datapoints to *.csv file via the USB flash port and import that data onto the PC for plotting in Gnuplot.

I don't mean to sound negative on the scope, after all I decided to keep it, just making sure people aren't expecting the Hope Diamond if you get this. It's a decent scope. If you have a particular application, read the specs carefully to make sure it'll do what you need and that the feature trade-off is one you can live with.

This scope does not have a trigger output that I can use to test the waveform/s... does anyone have a method to test this in lieu of a trigger out?
