For a moment, I have both the Siglent SDS2104XP and the RIGOL MSO5074. I am taking the time to get a feel for both and reaffirm for myself that the siglent was the right choice. I am confused a bit about the power off function. For the Siglent SDS2000XP the manual says to power off: press the power button, OR menu driven: utilities>shutdown. Utilities > Shutdown works, but when I press the power button nothing happens. Unless I hold it down for many seconds, then it shuts off, but I assume this is a forced power off, not a controlled shutdown. The RIGOL is different. It doesn't seem to have a controlled shutdown option, just the solid, positive mechanical power button that just cuts power. And I can't find anything in the RIGOL manual about powering down. I assume its ok to just press power button and be done with it. But the Siglent seems to want a controlled shutdown, and I don't want to have to navigate a menu with three think/aim finger/poke routines for my brain to process when I want to turn it off and walk away. I mean, I'll do it, but come on... Am I missing something? |

I see the "Shutting down..." message on the screen. Try update to the latest firmware, mine is V1.5.2R1. All the later Siglent scopes with a membrane ON/OFF button require a 2s press to enter soft shutdown and remember settings. A press and hold will engage a hard shutdown like pulling the plug and only the previous settings will be returned at boot. |

OK. Thanks guys. 2 seconds huh... that's uh...... That could cause a rant. But I'll hold it back. Wonder if it's possible to hack that into a proper 'OFF' button. I get it though. I mean, it's probably so that you don't accidentally turn it off by bumping your coffee mug into the off button. But it's not like you're going to lose information, right? Just turn it back on and keep your coffee mug away from it. /sigh/ look there. I ended up in a rant after all. |O |
