Title: Siglent SDS2204 "USB Flash Drive isn't connected"
Post by: survise on August 14, 2020, 04:30:14 pm
Hi everyone, hope you are doing good.

I wanted to update the firmware on my Siglent SDS2204 DSO (currently at an ancient "Software Version" 1.1.1.37.2) because SPI triggering on MOSI and DECODE just isn't happening.

However when I plug in the USB drive and head to the the UPDATE/Firmware menu, after pressing "Single" button to choose the file on the USB, I see a brief message: "USB Flash Drive isn't connected!" I tried restarting with the USB drive inserted, etc.

I've tried 5 different USB sticks, most are formatted FAT32.

Any idea if there are options to upgrade firmware via LAN or USB-device connection? Or kick start USB?

Thanks for your time, and any hints/clues.

Welcome to the forum.

USB flash drive size might be a problem.
I only use 8 GB sticks and no problems.

Maybe you can partition one to a smaller size IDK......never needed to.

Thanks!
Yeah, I was told by Scott Rocco (of Siglent in USA) to keep it at <=8Gb, and most of my USBs fit that criteria. One is 4GB.

When the scope is powered on, the VCC pin of the USB receptacle stays at 0V. Wonder what other similar units have?

Are there any schematics floating around for this or similar units? I might brave breaking the seal and peak inside.

I found a helpful service manual for SDS1000X, that even lists test points for voltage rails.

Nothing available for SDS2000 on either old.siglentamerica.com or siglentna.com
(Weird that SDS2000 is not even listed on siglentna.com  :-BROKE )

Do you have a stick with an activity LED ?
That should give indication that 5V power is at the socket.

They are also designed to power auxiliaries so maybe try a phone charger cable to check if its working.

I wouldn't open it up at this time until you prove there is a problem with the USB power.

It could just be the 4GB stick so consider partitioning another and give it another try.
