Having the same form factor probably makes it easier to sell to customers who have these in racks. |

The thing that strikes me as odd is the 1080W output. As far as I've been able to find only instek has that specific power output. |

--- Quote from: nctnico on October 31, 2020, 11:15:37 am ---But oddly enough some GW Instek PSUs have the exact same dimension as the Kikisui power supplies. The same for electronic loads from GW Instek and Kikusui which are nearly identical both in physical appearance and specs. In the end it doesn't make sense to re-invent the wheel for a relatively low-tech product like a power supply or dc-load so outsourcing the design to an OEM makes sense. --- End quote --- Yet this can backfire on you. GW Instek used to be the OEM for another manufacturer of test equipment; let's call them Manufacturer X, based out of X-Land. (I probably shouldn't name them as this relates to my day job; you know how that goes....) Manufacturer X's units were marked Made in Taiwan rather than Made in X-Land. Fast forward 15 years. Now both GW Instek and Manufacturer X are active in this small market segment. But X's new units look nothing like their old units, and are now Made in X-Land. And a new GW Instek unit and old Manufacturer X unit are, if you take off the lids, quite obviously related. So OEM relationships can get quite complicated! |
