Title: Slight rant about my Extech 382275
Post by: xenocide702 on July 09, 2014, 12:19:03 am
I had my previously trusty extech supply set at 15 A constant current at around 6 V, when it suddenly died. No volts on the output (with no load), panel meters reading zip. The knobs still respond and the set voltage shows up, but nothing on the output. It gives a message Op OFF on the display on reboot. There's no enable button on this thing apart from the remote control on the back, which is disconnected and disabled.

So I lift the skirt to have poke around and I find this little bastard of a fuse. Who puts a fuse socket surrounded on all sides by gigantic components!?  :wtf: The heatsinks are screwed in such that the screws cannot be removed without desoldering components

High carbon steel wire bent into a hook will get it out easily. Use a small screwdriver and a small piece of blue tac or similar to hold the new one to the tip when replacing it. Really bastard would be that they placed the fuse in there and then placed a sleeve over it for "extra protection" and some swine assembler was a little generous with the RTV adhesive and stuck it down to the board and the heatsink.

I considered trying to get it out with a bent wire or something, but ended up just yanking the big cap. It only took a few minutes with lots of flux and some solder braid (all glory to my JBC iron :-+).

The new fuse didn't blow again (and the old one certainly was blown), but I still get no output :( I'll dive a little deeper this weekend...

I realize this is an old thread but I was wondering if the original poster had any luck fixing his 382275 . I have a dead one now as well and would like to know if he ended up finding the issue he was having with his.
