Sniffing the Rigol's internal I2C bus
Marty_MC:
Hello!
I am a German amateur radio guy (Ham) and I am looking for a new DSO. For home use.
Now I am in the conflict to go for a 2072 2172A-S.
Generally, I was going to buy a 2072 and "extend" the device with this information of this board here...
For me are important:
- 200 MHz
- More memory for storage
- UART decoding
As far as I understood, the A Version can not be "extended" by simple use the codes of the well know page?
I have the doubt that the new version is more protected as the old one.
However the A versions are able to have a 50 Ohm input and a signal generator. Two nice features.
What I not understand: Suppose I am buying a 2072 and extend it by using these codes of the page. Would it still function with a 2.0 Firmware version?
The next problem is to get a 2072 without A NOW. I am thinking perhaps Conrad.de would have it on stock.
(My wife wants to buy the DSO for my as a Christmas gift. - so I have to decide quick...
What are your suggestions?
Thank you very much!!

look one page back, yesterday i sucessfully unlocked my DS2072 (HW2.0) together with the new firmware (0.2). (Decode incl. CAN, Memory, Trigger, 300MHz).
Sure, 50Ohms is a nice feature, but at the moment i would go for the DS2072 or wait some time until the A Version is unlocked. Nobody knows these days, if this will be possible at all.
Signal Generator is a usefull thing, but you still have to pay some euros extra for that. Maybe you better go for the DG1022 or Siglent SDG10xx Generators instead, brings you the advantage of an extra device. As a Ham radio guy you may prefer a signal generator with more output frequency at sine wave (go for a sine wave generator), so you may don't need the arbitrary functions. It depends on your needs.
Batronix has the DS2072 still on stock, the bigger problem should be to get the A Version on stock at this moment i guess.

Still no sign of it. Allegedly shipped on the 4th Dec., but the tracking number doesn't work. WTF? Will give it a few more days before I follow up.

Rock on! I am so curious if it s going to work =)
