Hello ROB_R,
Funnily enough I am just getting my HM5014-2 software loaded.
Rohde-Schwartz very helpfully sent me exactly this version of software a couple of days ago.
On installing it comes up with a message saying it has installed some files and then needs to be restarted.
I restart it and it says exactly the same thing.
I have tried it on several computers, different makes, versions of Windows etc etc but it is always the same result.
I saw your copy and tried that but it does exactly the same thing.
Any ideas?
When the zip file is unzipped it puts this into a temp or download in the computer but when the .exe file is run from there it puts it into its pre-arranged folder.
My guess is that the link to where it stores the special files it creates when the proper program is run for the first time initially is not the same link as where it looks for them to see if they are installed.
Did you have any problems with this??
Thanks
Ray

Hello,
Since my post, I have contacted Rohde & Schwarz again and they said the software has to be run on computers running old Windows software only.
10/10 to R and S for supporting on their help-desk an old legacy product.
We thought we were running on an XP computer but on closer inspection it was updated somehow?
Anyway we dusted off an even older computer that was definitely XP and the software now works fine.
Interesting point was that we intended to use a USB to serial converter.
This would not work on XP machine as it was too old to be supported by USB to serial converter!!
However the old computer still had RS 232 port so all was well.

Hello,
I bought a refurbished HM5014-2 last weekend and came to the same known problem with installing the AS100E SW on my Windows7 laptop.
The SW always pretended to extract files into the installation directory and asked to restart it.
Looking into the directory there were no additional files copied.
And at restart the SW again the same effect. |O
After a lot of fruitless trial and run, I decided to reinstall the Software, but instead of the default proposed path I chosed "C:\HAMEG".
And - bingo- now the additional files were extracted into the same folder and the SW afterwards started as expected. :-+
This might help others using the SW on Windows 7.
I did not try on my Windows 10 workstation yet.

That sounds like the software doesn't run on Windows versions where 'Program files' directory cannot be written by the user.

I got this to run on Windows 10 64bit. nctnico has the nub of the problem right.
You need to go to Program Files (x86)\AS100E\ (or wherever you installed it) and right click on "dllarc.exe" and chose "Run as Andministrator".
That will extrtact the dlls. After that it works just fine, even with USB serial ports as long as they are on COM1,2,3,4
Your saved plots are saved in some kind of Access database format.
I use Axbase (https://sourceforge.net/projects/axbase/ (https://sourceforge.net/projects/axbase/)) to get the data from the .mdb files
Cheers

Or you change the install path to a folder where non admin users can write. This works for me.

Hello everyone!
I've also recently gotten this Spectrum Analyzer. I wanted to try the software. Would someone be so kind as to make the software available?
-
Hello Colleagues!
I recently had chance to got HM5014-2 spectrum analyser too. I tried software on windows XP and it works but on WIN7 x64bit even installed on C:\hameg with added all possible read/ write rights started with XP compatibility and with administrator rights. Program starts after some time but after that it hangs. Main program frame is displayed but internal frame with spectrum isn't displayed. COM port PCIe card is configured as COM1 and under windows XP AE100S 3.05 it works properly. I unpacked mentioned before dlls.
Instrument firmware 1,23, key 2,0.
This software in combination with spectrum analyzer seems to be still ok for development of some side projects which will works under 200MHz (5th harmonic rules = 1GHz)
I would like to mention that tested this software under LINUX WINE which emulates win7 - the same effect like on standard windows 7.
Do you have any idea how to force it to be operational on WIN7 or LINUX WINe??

Seems to be solution.
1)You need to active ACTIVEX instalation in windows services to start with OS.
2) Probably install Visual Basic 6 runtime (I installed)
3) Register this manually C:\HAMEG\Regsvr32 GRID32.OCX
since this moment ;) you can enjoy your new / old tool

I wrote to R&S a mail asking for the software. Less than 2 hours later I got a link to download it.
If anyone needs this program just send me a message to fberna62@gmail.com
Installed and followed the instructions from The Chump.
It works flawlessly on win 10
