MicroPrint 45CI HP-IB to parallel converter Question
« on: March 03, 2021, 07:52:22 pm »
Hello there.

I've got in my possession HP-IB to Parallel converter MicriPrint 45CI.  Quite an ancient device from company called Intelligent Interfaces. It has parallel DB 25 connector on one side and GPIB-like connector on other side. Ther are few pictures in the internet but not too much if the info overall.

I am wondering  - is that posibile to use this adapter as GPIB to Parallel converter and if so, what kind of SW or driver will work with that

Thanks.

What are you interested in doing, using the parallel port interface of the MicroPrint 45 as a general purpose I/O interface controlled through its HP-IB / GPIB port interface?

If you wanted to go the other direction to control a GPIB interface through a parallel port interface, National Instruments had a GPIB-1284CT box that did that. That product has been obsolete for a long time and might not have been supported beyond DOS and Windows 3.1 drivers. I actually have one of those boxes that I have never bothered trying to use.

So the latter, I guess.

I want to use it to control GBIP devices via parallel port of the PC (which is also obsolete, but  am still using laptop with parallel) .  Anyway, thanks for looking into that.

What OS are you running on your old laptop? It appears that National Instruments only supported the GPIB-1284CT with NI-488.2 versions released for Windows 3.1, which could also be run up through Windows 95 / 98 / Me, and the GPIB-1284CT was never supported by NI-488.2 versions released for Windows NT / 2000 / XP.

If you happen to be running Windows 95 / 98 / Me on your old laptop and wanted to try getting a GPIB-1284CT to work, I doubt I would ever get around to using the one I have. It would be reasonably cheap to ship it within the US, but might not be worth the shipping cost to Canada.
