Suggestions for a True RMS Digital Multimeters - Hand Held
« on: October 05, 2022, 09:35:39 am »
Hi

We need a True RMS Digital Multimeters - Hand Held, for my workplace.

To guide you a little bit (but hopefully not limit your creativity too much), we had this one: Fluke 175, at my former workplace - but personally, I find it a little expensive.

Do you have any choices for a more price friendly True RMS Digital Multimeters - Hand Held.

Here are many suggestions:

All are as good quality as Fluke.

True RMS is no longer a really expensive point.  The main question is if you need the safety to confidently measure mains - that is what limits the choices.

It depends on what you want to do.
For electronics work, i think nothing beats the old trusty Uni-T UT61E.
Obviously, your choice depends on your budget.

It always depends on what you are trying to do and how much you want to spend. Fungus' suggestion for Brymen is the closest you will get to your 175 in terms of quality and safety but at a lower cost than Fluke. If you are looking for a direct replacement, the Brymen BM250S series is what you are looking for. If you do not need capacitance measurements, the BM251 is a great replacement; otherwise, go for a BM252 and up. If you don't need the bargraph, then you can go for the BM230S series.

If you are in a tighter budget and do not need the safety for high energy circuits, then the UT139C (a bit lower safety) and the UT61E (no safety) are excellent candidates. Both have several better specifications and features when compared to the 175 at the expense of safety - the UT61E has a higher count.

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...
