Has anyone used these? All my searches lead to them being only available in Japan which strikes me as odd.
Are there any similar products more commonly available?

There is a list of distributors outside of Japan:

Purpose of these leads are to insert it into through hole PCB and stay. It doesn't test the through hole itself. Very interesting...

Unfortunately none of these stock the item. There is no USA distribution.

Or you could consider making some up yourself using loose contacts of a "board-in" connector e.g. Molex 50034 series contacts.
