Title: Sweep on Agilent / HP 8563E not smooth all the time
Post by: hafrse on June 17, 2020, 06:20:39 pm
I have acquired a used 8563E  ,  I noticed that sometimes the sweep (/or screen update ?)  is not that smooth all the time, this happens on different spans.
For example,  if I reset the instrument, full span is 26.5 Ghz, the sweep from left to right  goes smooth  but sometimes it stops for a fraction of a sec and continues . However, no  error codes are reported.  i can say for every  10 sweep cycles,  1-3 cycles it reacts as described above .

Any experience  of this instument and behaviour ?
Many thanks for any information

I've also experienced it on my 8563E. I think it's normal behavior.

The 8563E runs automatic IF alignment between sweeps.  (I think this feature can be turned off with an HPIB command.)  Depending on the BW being aligned at a particular time the required pause can vary.  I think that is what you are seeing.

It's normal. CAL > IF ADJ  will turn it off if you want.

Thanks for all answers, it worked fine after disabling the IF auto align.
