Vintage Multimeter/tester question
« on: August 10, 2017, 04:13:01 am »
Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some help looking for a particular model. We've all seen Dave's first DMM, and I got to thinking about what mine was. At first I thought it was a RadioShack True-RMS handheld type (model 22-174) that I got for my 18th birthday. However, I remember building one when I was about 12 or 13 years old. During my freshman year in high school, we were given a multimeter kit that we had to solder and put together. Sure, it wasn't all that accurate, but it did the super basic of things. It was about maybe 4 inches tall and about 2-3 inches wide. It was a light blue in color. I don't remember who made it, but it looks very similar to the Micronta 22-027 model.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Are you talking about a vintage analog or digital multimeter kit?

My first DMM was the Sabtronics 2000 kit circa late 1970's.  I have the manual and stuff, not sure if it's in my junk box lol.
It is blue, a kit, and quite old.

Reread your post, I'm half awake.
How about Radio Shack’s ArcherKit Multimeter kit 28-4012A

I had the same meter (before the Sabtronics) but can't remember if I soldered it together, but it's that old blue colour...
The assembled Micronta 22-027 one is black.

Bingo, that's it. I loved that little meter, even if it wasn't all that great. I think I will attempt to find one. What's another meter... I only have about 8 multimeters  ;) (All RS, except for one Fluke... should probably get rid of most of them and get the Bryman 235 eevblog one)
