Syscomp CTR-101 Curve Tracer
« on: January 29, 2015, 10:56:16 pm »
Has anyone used this or maybe own this? I am looking to get more detailed information on this unit. Since I can't budget a Keithley or Agilent SMU at the moment, I am researching alternate solutions. I do have the Peak Atlas DCA Pro but it's limited to low voltage/current but does have some uses.

It is now 2020 and they claim to have an updated version CTR-201, however the listings on Amazon.ca and Amazon.com are defunct and I've not found it available for purchase anywhere.

https://www.amazon.ca/Syscomp-CTR-101-Source-Curve-Tracer/dp/B00O4IGT1I

Also, the download link for their software on their website does not work, and their "purchase cart" is dysfunctional.

The above leaves me wondering whether the company is real and whether it is selling real products. It makes me distrust them.
Also, they posted a PDF reveiw which states that minimum current sensitivity is 20 uA whereas I'd rather see 100nA.

There is a similar product available on eBay from locky-z which has good reviews on DIY Audio forum and seems to work well:

Also, the download link for their software on their website does not work. Inspecting the web page source code reveals that the links are just words with no links to any download.

I don't see any way to add the CTR-201 to their shopping cart, or maybe the shopping cart is dysfunctional. I've gone back and checked because this baffled me when I originally wanted to buy this.

The above leaves me wondering whether the company is real and whether it is selling real products, or just some guy with a nice website? It makes me distrust them and thereby undermines my confidence in their product. Therefore I've not tried to contact them (it's Saturday) and I'll be moving on.

They posted a PDF review (of CTR-101) under CTR-201 which states that minimum current sensitivity is 20 uA whereas I'd MUCH rather see 100nA. Are they confused about their CTR-101 vs their CTR-201 or?

Otherwise the specs look really nice but do you get a schematic?

There is a similar product available on eBay from locky-z which has good reviews on DIY Audio forum and seems to work well. You get a schematic with it but not source code. He's been active for quite some time so I'm considering purchasing it.

Well, I bought the locky_z curve tracer and it is AMAZING! So good that I took the time to translate the less-used manuals into English. User manual was already in English. Translations are here: https://github.com/locky-z/Curve-Tracer/pull/1/files
And don't forget to download the translated ads7871_v3s.PRE file which contains presets for all manner of tests.

FWIW, sadly the proprietor of Syscomp, Peter Hiscocks, passed away on August 1st, 2018.  Try contacting the company as I believe someone is still active.  Their instruments use the "CircuitGear" software, and somewhere is/was a repository for it.  If merember correctly, the source is included in the packages...

CTR101 Software:

And FWIW, Hiscocks' book "Analog Circuit Design" in PDF:
