Kunkin KP-184 Reviews? / Good , cheap load?
« on: September 20, 2019, 08:43:32 pm »
Hi,
i need a DC Load for switching power supply testing.

Up to 50V or 10A is needed. With less than 100W.
But i want test "load jumps" like embedded Linux system cpu/gpu load scaling. And for regulation loop testing.
Does somebody know If the cheap kunkin KP-184  DC Load is good for this?
I can get it for 160€ on eBay...

So I bought one and now I regret.
I got a faulty instrument which I decided to repair... without spectacular success and I cannot return it. So beware.

First issue: rotary encoder with insufficient debouncing. It was impossible to set value I wanted.
Adding 2x10nF in parallel to existing approx 2x4.7nF located near encoder did help.

Second and biggest issue: voltage readout hangs up in random moments and never goes back to normal operation.
This is really killing bug during battery test. Battery cut-off voltage feature does not work due to this bug and discharges battery to almost 0V.

My investigation showed that during hang up SPI (between uC and ADC) stops working (no SCLK).
Hang up is rather not related to EMI.

It is also interesting that I cannot measure any oscillation across uC crystal oscillator despite I'm using 1/10 probe.

If someone could confirm this crystal observation I would be grateful.
