No, that error 3 should be correct. The last page of the log shows an error. Could you please take a look?

Thank you very much. I carefully compared the serial port logs and found that it reported an error "ERROR..." at the end of the operation. The step size of 0.00 DLs is too small.

Thank you for your reply. The attachment contains the specific log. It seems that the error occurred at the end.

Dear forum members,

I would like to briefly introduce myself: My name is Patrick and I work at Cronologic. We develop ADC and TDC PCIe devices. Since the founding of our company about 18 years ago, we have been the proud owners of a Tektronix TDS 7404. It was the first “real” lab instrument we were able to afford after starting the company.

Unfortunately, about two weeks ago, the unit stopped working.

The following actions have already been taken:

Replaced the VRAM battery

Replaced the 2.5 V regulator (previously only 0.8 V was measured)

The scope now responds again via RS232. However, the boot process stops after the message:
“romPost: POWER-UP DIAGNOSTIC COMPLETE.”

The 7-segment display remains stuck showing an “L”.

Using another oscilloscope, we verified that the RS232 signals are present at connector J790.

Has anyone experienced something similar or has an idea how to proceed from here?

Many thanks in advance and best regards,
Patrick

How far i understand, we have todo this via the RS232 Interface. But the problem is, it stops after:

Is the DIP switch causing this?
or maybe the boot flash is corrupted?

I am the owner of a DPO7254  which I purchased new about 15 years ago.  Well today the scope failed to switch on and I traced the fault to an overheated resistor R33 of 33k in the psu.   On reassembly, the scope powered up, all voltages present with green leds DS200,201,202,203,204,330 all showing normal.    The scope did not  complete booting however, and I had no LCD display.    Attaching a monitor to the motherboard vga showed a Tektronix splash screen with the error message "Cannot continue because the kernel driver is missing"    Is this the problem with NVRAM which is discussed at length in this forum?   Or do i have another issue?

I have looked in vain for the 7 segment display and J790 but can't find them.   Is my model different from the CSA and TDS700?   Or am I just getting old and blind?  Any assistance in my search would be appreciated.

Hi bielec,

Your Instrument is another Family. See its Service Manual: Maintenance Section - Troubleshooting. And you can use Google for fixing your Kernel Driver issue.

Thank you for your response, and yes Google suggested that the hard disk was probably not available due to bios cmos battery failure.  Well, this morning the scope booted up and worked as normal so maybe that was it.  I shall replace the motherboard cmos battery.

On this scope model, am I to suppose that there is no NVRAM and  no PPC settings to worry about?

Should I start a new thread specific to the DPO7254?

The PSU  was an Artesyn model CVR460-96P01B01  which is available at £1500 so I was lucky to find the fault of dry solder joint due to overheating resistors.  Maybe this supply is common to 7000 series scopes in this thread?

Hi bielec,

You don't have to worry about the NVRAM in this Instrument, but both Big Fans on the left side can have a problem. See another Post from me:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tektronix-dpo7254-intelligent-fan-control-or/msg6078549/#msg6078549

And I should make a Clone of its HDD, upgrade the Firmware and enable some (or all) of its Options. Creating a new Topic/Thread will help Google.
