Tek scope with Josephson Junction sampling?

(1/1)

PwrElectronics:
I was having random thoughts today and remembered reading in some trade magazine over 30yrs ago about a high end sampling scope that used Josephson Junctions.  It was a beast on a cart and needed a cyrogenic cooling system.  Was it a Tektronix or am I misremembering or  :-//

I know we have some 10G scopes in one of the labs at work but the fastest scope I have ever personally used is 1G.

mawyatt:
Recall this was a LeCroy, but memory isn't that good.

Best,

Correct. LeCroy made their name with the Josephson junction scope. I don't remember anyone else making one.

Which LeCroy was that? I foud no mention of it anywhere, no doubt it was never mass marketed.

A few lines about Josephson junction samplers in the attached document.

There is reference to LeCroy for a Heterojunction design.

I had that same issue when someone asked about me superconducting oscilloscopes a few years ago. I thought I was going to find lots of material on the web about such an interesting topic. I found nothing. There were lots of articles at the time in magazines like EDN. So, there might be poorly indexed scans on line, that just aren't showing up in a web search. I actually saw one at a trade show in London. It could have been something not entirely ready for market, but it seemed functional in their demos. I'm struggling to remember the kind of performance figures they were talking about.
