Tektronix DPO4104B-L , any user ?
« on: June 06, 2019, 09:23:45 am »
I need higher BW oscilloscope recently, but you know most of devices price is very high even the "entry" level brand Siglent oscilloscopes. Siglent SDS5104X 4Ch 1GHz 5GSa/s Oscilloscope' price is about 6.5 K €. My budget is about 4 k $. So I decided to buy used one. I found used Tektronix DPO4104B-L (1 Ghz BW) in my own region, price is very good 3.5 K $, but i didn't find any detailed user review. When i search on the forum , most of the issue about repair.  if anyone use this device, can tell your ideas, thoughts? Thanks.

I would not buy it :(

We had MSO4000 and DPO4000 scopes at my college, and like all Tek digital scopes they were slow and came with a horrible UI :(

Decoding is slow as well :(

The only people who liked them were our older profs who had their last contact with the industry in the late 70s when scopes were still analog ;)

With a budget of $4k, you should easily find something better. For example, the Agilent/Keysight DSOX3104A can often be found in that price range and it’s a vastly better scope than the DPO :)

Ignore the haters, the Tek 4000 series is a solid and reliable scope that works well. I've used them at many different companies and never had any problem getting the job done. For the time they were a stand out product that lead across many specifications for products in that range. If it does the the things you need it to do then its a great price.

Have you tried Agilent/Keysight oscilloscopes of equivalent specs? Tek is not much cheaper but the interface is slow and horrible. Tek gets the job done, but if they had put more thought into user-friendliness, and if they were as kind and helpful like Agilent/Keysight for discontinued products, I'd be all for it.

I'm not opposed to Tek if they offer the specs to do a difficult measurement when Keysight/Agilent doesn't. But as a troubleshooting scope that you often have to change settings and measurements, Tek is frustrating to use. If Agilent/Keysight offers the same thing at the same price as Tek, I wouldn't consider Tek at all (unless they re-designed their user interface, make it more responsive, and fix up their horrible autoscale algorithm that gives a time/div that aliases).
