Title: Tektronix MSO4 firmware update for faster UI
Post by: flint on November 27, 2019, 12:55:54 am
I have been looking at buying an Tektronix MSO4 for a while.  But every time I watch the MSO4 videos online I feel like the sluggishness would drive me a little crazy.

Unfortunately I don't have the kind of budget that would let me buy an MSO5.

Do any of you have an MSO4?  Is the UI fairly snappy in real life, both in viewing wave forms and also in operating the scope?  Is it comparable to the MSO5 (which is an Intel Core-i5 with a lot more power than the dual-core ARM in the MSO4).

I know that there was a firmware update on September 4th that says it improved the UI performance, but I'm hoping to learn from real-world experiences before I pay that much for a scope.  So far all I can observe are a dozen YouTube videos that all came out before that update.

I know there are lower-cost scopes out there.  I've spent dozens of hours watching videos on all of them.  The MSO4 is the one that speaks to me the most.

If I buy the MSO4, I'd be happy to share my experiences with it too.

As the firmware release states, there were some nice improvements to the UI that will ease any concerns you were seeing online. Yes the 5/6 Series have more horsepower and thus will be more responsive. But the engineering team made some good improvements.

Please don't hesitate to contact your local account manager and ask for a him or her to drop by with a unit to test out. We prefer that you be happy with your purchase. Feel free to PM me and i'll personally make sure the local account manager brings by an updated unit for you to test drive.

Cheers,
Brian

Brian,

Thanks for the post!  That is good news.

Any chance that Tektronix is going to post new MSO4 videos sometime soon?  I'm just trying to get a feel for performance.
